I'm 4 weeks post op tomorrow, have been 186 for a week now! I know because I started with a lower-ish BMI of 32 it's going to happen slow :( I'm just discouraged. Really thinking about going back to full liquids pretty much just shakes. I also need to step up my exercise. I'm bummed today!

I've read that u stall between 2 and 4 weeks because your Water and Protein intake isn't as high as it should be. Once you are able to get ALL required protien and water in u will break the stall

I have stalled at 2 weeks and at 4 weeks. I have had no problems getting Protein or Water in. This is a great article that explains the "why" way better than I can!Weight Loss Stall or Plateau.html Hope this works.

Congratulations! You have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or even longer. But don't worry – after that, the pounds will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches will continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. Here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again!

(Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

What is carb cycling?

Once every 4-6 days you increase your carb intake to about 100 plus grams a day. With healthy carbs. Yogurt oatmeal fruits Beans nut butters nuts etc. (also workout hard on these days) then follow the next day with very little carbs then the next day with moderate amounts of carbs etc..... This boosts metabolism and gets you out if "starvation mode" There are lots of articles about carb cycling out there. It got me out of a stall and body builders do it. It works!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
