Stomach Pain After Eating

Recommended Posts

Hey. Hi.
I could really use some advice tonight.

I had my RNY a year ago in August, and had some crazy complications. Most notable was the pancreatitis and strictures. (I haven't, however, had early dumping. Late yes, early no, so I have no frame of reference for what it feels like.)

Now, the last few days-say, since about Wednesday-ish-I've been getting pain in my stomach whenever I eat. It's on the left side, just under my ribs, and in the right spot for pancreatitis, but not nearly severe enough. I went to urgent care on Thurs. night, because the pain and nausea was terrible, and the doctor seemed to think I was eating too much/too fast/having some crazy fierce indigestion. On Friday, I started having trouble eating anything solid without pain and nausea, and spent most of the day in the bathroom. And now I'm down to Water and Gatorade; I haven't eaten much more than a few bites of salmon since Friday morning.

Here's the problem: it's midnight on the fourth of July. My bariatric doctor is over an hour away, and honestly? I'm just plain sick of seeing the inside of hospitals right now. I'm sitting here stuck between thinking this is a bad thing, and all these thoughts that are telling me I'm being paranoid, and it's too late in the game for these sorts of complications. (To say nothing of not wanting to bother people on a holiday if it is nothing.)

Should I wait until Monday and give my surgon a call, or start thinking about paying the urgent care another visit?

Sometimes we just need to hear that what we are going through is important. If I were you I would NOT wait until Monday. I would be at the nearest emergency room for those symptoms. If you need the reason, 1) increasing abdominal pain with nausea and loss of appetite. 2) History of pancreatitis and 3) change in bowel habits as you say you spent most of Friday in the bathroom. Don't worry about "bothering" people. It comes with the profession, your health is important. Wish you well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
