I don't mean to sound gross but....

Good for you for following up on it - I was too embarrassed and ended up with a fissure. Now I take a preventative softener every night and added Fiber gummies and fish oil (probably works on my head more than my bowels, lol) every morning to keep things moving.

It seems trivial, but nothing to mess around with if it goes on too long. Just like the rest of life, it only takes one miserable a$$hole to ruin your whole day.

First post :-) ...I was sleeved on June 29th... "Smooth Move" All Natural tea works great! Go to your local grocery store and check the health food section. I've found it at Raley's, Bel Air and Sprouts.

I remember adjusting to this change - it is very differnt post op, you will adjust but because your diet is so different, it will be differnt too. I am glad you went to the ER if you had pain and could not see your Dr.

I've been having the same problem. I was told not to take miralex or anything with fiber. I use 3 stool softeners a day plus a med that the doc gave me that helps the bowel absorb Water. When I was in total pain last week I was told to take milk of magnesia. It worked and I felt so much better but I was told not to keep taking it. I am at a high does med but still only going around once every 3 days. At times it is fine and at times it is painful. I know the Protein shakes cause Constipation and it is hard (dare I ay impossible to get in 64 oz of Fluid when my stomach can't hold a lot at once.) Weeks 1 & 2 were easy. I'm finding weeks 3 & 4 much more challenging. I go back to doc again on Friday and hope this gets better.

Please be careful what you take. Lots of the normal constipation remedies are not okay with the sleeve (or at least within months of surgery.)

I finally went today after a week. Kinda figured it was all due to liquid diet. Passed gas ok, so i figured nature would eventually take course.

I haven't had the surgery yet. But I do have the post diet information from the Dr already and it says no coffee or tea for 2 months. How is it that some of you can take the Smooth Move tea? Are you taking this right after your sleeve or several months later? Just a bit confused.

It's an herbal tea not a caffeinated one. I'd clarify that one with your doc myself as I'm finding it MUCH easier to get down peppermint or chamomile tea (unsweetened) than Water these days. It's really helping me stay hydrated.

OH Thanks for that bit of info. The Nut did say I could have herbal teas. Something I very seldom have. Is green tea consisted a herbal tea. If it isn't green tea than I usually have black. So I gather black tea is out of the questions for at least 2 months when the surgery happens sometime in 2016

Green tea isn't generally considered an herbal tea as it has caffeine and actually comes from the same plant that black tea comes from. It's just processed slightly differently. Herbal teas can be quite nice. You might check out celestial seasons stuff. You might like it.

Green tea is tea. People call herbal infusions "herbal tea" but they are not actually tea. They are herbs steeped in hot water. Only "tea" is made from the tea plant. Tea is naturally caffeinated (black teas have more caffeine than green teas but they still have caffeine). Caffeine is what we are supposed to avoid immediately after surgery so herbal infusions or "herbal teas" should be ok.

I'm going to check with doc tomorrow about Smooth Move. I know herbal tea is fine but so many things usually used for Constipation are not allowed yet that I want to check this one out before using it. Thanks of the idea.

And, for whoever asked,as far as I know decaffeinated green tea is fine. Problem I have is that I spend all day getting in my Protein Drinks so really no time to drink tea or anything else.

I was always a everyday and least once or twice a day type girl. After my last surgery it was 7 days before I went. Never felt bad. Are you passing gas or in pain? I would wait a bid if your feeling ok. Good luck!

I had one or two really painful days but for the most part I'm just going every 3 days. Not comfortable when I go. But I just remembered something thaI assume is allowed and that really helped me get going again after I had knee surgery -- acupuncture. I had forgotten. And it is a wonderful thing to do after surgery to restore body balance. Can't get an appointment this week but plan to start next week and go for several weeks. I think (and hope) that will be a real help.

The other thing about Constipation is that my weight actually went up today and I did not like that one bit!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
