Are there any folks in the 55-60 age group out there that can answer my question?

I am 58 years old and will soon have my surgery. I see some very impressive weight loss statistics from people that are 8 or so weeks out. What kind of results are those in my age group seeing?

Remember it varies significantly and those that are heavier will lose more initially. I am 4 months out and will be 55 in a few days. I was 269 on surgery day and now weigh 205. ( height 5' 5") After the first month I am averaging 12 pounds loss a month. I tend to have one slow week and then one where I lose 5 pounds. I had one gain that was followed by a bigger loss.

Hi there. I am 52 years old. I had bypass 9 months ago and have lost 111lbs with 34 left to go to get to goal.

As another poster stated, the rate of weight loss depends on how much you have to lose to begin with. In the end some lose faster in the beginning and some lose steady all along the way but they those that follow the plan will reach their goals.

Wow, congrats to both of you. I am currently at 259, hope to be at 250 by surgery time. It must feel so exciting to be only 30 ish pounds away. Thanks for you responses.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
