Concerned about my Blood Pressure

Recommended Posts

I've been struggling with mine. My PCP even changed my meds last month and it hasn't changed. It's still in the 145/100 range. When I went to my pre op appointment it was 160/100! The doctor didn't seem too concerned, but I know that if it's too high on the day of surgery, they may not proceed. For those of you who have had surgery, what was your BP on the day of surgery?

I don't remember exactly but it was high. It runs high and I was of course a bit anxious. They did have me take my hbp med the night before surgery. They still did my surgery. Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids, it helps. Good luck!

Mine was ok... I have been on a beta blocker since I was 23 so I wasn't really expecting to come off of the med... I thought it was hereditary.. I was told to take my beta blocker the morning of surgery with a sip of Water which I did... That was 4 months ago and I'm down about 43 lbs.. I immediately came off of my diabetic meds and haven't had any since the day before surgery. My BP has been running low and I only take the pill 2 days a week but waiting to completely come off of it in the next couple of weeks. I monitor it daily.. I would not worry too much about your BP.. They can give I.V. meds to get your BP down before, during and after surgery.

It is scary to have high uncontrolled BP. I'm so sorry you're going through that! I had been struggling with mine for over a year and no meds seemed to work consistently. Finally my cardiologist suggested to look into VSG surgery which I had on May 14 because resolve the problems related to high blood pressure and pre diabetes. Not only did it make my weight go down which certainly affects her blood pressure but it also has resolved a number of other problems like joint pain Gerd low energy. I'm 61 and I am feeling better everyday. I'm hoping to be off all meds at my next follow up????

They will make sure you take your pill on the morning of surgery or the night before for precaution. I was fine in surgery and after.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
