jaxmom1974 53 Posted July 4, 2015 I'm only a month out but I'm dying to eat a portion of a Protein bar! I'm having the hardest time finding something other that a Protein Shake and string cheese to carry with me when I'm on the go.
wannaBthinsoon 1,634 Posted July 4, 2015 8 weeks for me.
*Lexie* 1,486 Posted July 4, 2015 Probably 4-6 months for me. But not because I couldn't, I just tried to stay away from them for a while. Even now, I won't eat more than one in a day.
alindsey 230 Posted July 4, 2015 I try and stay away from them they have sooooo many carbs! Not a great food choice! There are some home made recipes that are basically Protein Powder and oatmeal. They are low carb if you use low carb Protein powder.
jaxmom1974 53 Posted July 4, 2015 The ones I eat have less than 5G of sugar. I just wanted to know because I'me having trouble with food on the go. I'm at the beach and pool a lot and need something non parish able and portable with Protein. I don't plan on making meals out of them.
alindsey 230 Posted July 4, 2015 (edited) I love them to! I used to eat them as a cheat or a eat one if I got a little sick after long hike or workout. They always made me so full. I wonder how they will feel with our new tummies? Im curious if we could eat like 1/4th of one? Edited July 4, 2015 by alindsey
alindsey 230 Posted July 4, 2015 On the go ideas people have recommended to me are string cheese, handful of nuts, dried fruits, single serving yogurts, cottage cheese, and apple sauces. Also heard people eating beef Jerky but that seem like it would hurt my stomach. I haven't gone back to work yet so I'm worried about on the go eating also. I need a good low sugar option if o decide to add them back in after weight lifting (if I ever heal enough to lift again) lol
Smye 694 Posted July 4, 2015 It was about 6 weeks, but be careful, eating Protein bars can, for some, be something of a gateway drug. Not to mention all of the junk they have in addition to the Protein. I definitely use them for an on-the-go emergency food when I need to, I don't mean to say they're 'evil' or anything, but your body will do better with less processed foods (a recent NIH study confirmed long term weight loss is significantly greater among those who eat their protein in meat/cheese/etc rather than shakes/bars). Check out this blog for some recipe ideas that taste pretty darned good.
Julie norton 2,850 Posted July 4, 2015 Some posters like Quest bars. They do well for Protein. Not too much sugar and they taste very good. Gmc Vitamins and on line. Some coscos but unusual Good luck????????
slvarltx 332 Posted July 4, 2015 I had my only bad food experience with some Atkins Protein bars...dumped them...almost ended up back in the hospital. BTW, if you ever get severely dehydrated, PediaLite is magic for rehydration.
lfry925 38 Posted July 4, 2015 I made my own which cut down on the carbs (it was still a lot) but I didn't like how it sat in my stomach. Heavy. I think I started eating them around 6 weeks post op but after that batch was gone I haven't eaten another. I'd rather have meat.

They only have 10g carbs for the whole bar and 5G sugar. They used to fill me up before surgery so I can only imagine a 1/4th of a bar would do it for me now. I get mine at Walmart.< /p>
