Nuts: Peanuts, Almonds, Cashews, etc.

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any input on their experiences trying nuts? How far post op were you when you gave them a try? Did they give you any trouble?

I love nuts and a good source of Protein... but I just began eating solids and am a little leary of trying something THAT solid.

Any feedback would be great!

I think I started eating nuts as soon as I was cleared for solid foods. I had nut butter from week 1. The only issue I had was with macadamia nuts which are something I rarely eat because of the high fat content. I found I had to really chew them and eat even slower.

However I think that goes for everything. As you are reintroducing foods back into your diet just go slow and chew well.

Thanks! I am going to a music festival in a couple weeks and trying to think of things I can take to keep my Protein intake up but will probably try to rely on my Protein shakes since I can take them in with me. Making good choices is hard enough without being in event grounds surrounded by food trucks lol At least someone always serves chicken on a stick! :)

I ate a lot of Peanut Butter and almond butter once I was on regular solids, about 6 weeks out. I wasn't allowed whole nuts and seeds until 3 months post. Then I went gangbangers and have eaten mixed nuts pretty much every day since.

I was probably 3-4 months out before I added nuts back in although I had already been eating some Peanut Butter before then. I've been fortunate (or unfortunate...hahaha!) that none of the foods I have been eating have given me any problems so far.

I was wondering the same. I just had my surgery on 7/2 but I wanted to know when nuts are okay to start eating.

Strangely enough, I have been craving Walnuts like crazy ever since I was post surgery. I talked to my surgeon and he was good with cashews and walnuts as soon as solid foods hit, week 6. He still recommends staying away from almonds until at least 3 months out as they are a bit more difficult to digest.

Since being on solids, cashews, almonds, and peanuts along with seeds are part of my "go to" cache. Very satisfying. I don't worry about the fat content....it fuels me very well.

My loss has slowed ALOT but clothing sizes continues to decrease. I credit those nuts & weight training. ????

i am 10 months out and i still have a hard time eating nuts, so i think it depends on your body. Try a small amount and see how well they go down !

I eat a small amount of almonds almost every day with my plain Greek yogurt. I'm 9 months out. I just started eating nuts a couple months ago.

I ate nuts 3 weeks post-op. I buy these little containers that come with chopped turkey or chicken, chopped cheese and a few nuts usually almonds- I take these little packets with me whenever I travel- they let me in a baseball game with them and are a lifesaver- they have anywhere from 12-17 grams of protein!! Forgot the name but you can find them usually in the section where they sell lunchables- they are long rectangular containers - good luck!

This is actually the reason I asked this! I am going to a music festival next week and saw those and wanted to take them but wasn't sure about the nuts! They look yummy!

I started eating nuts about 5 weeks out, had no issues at all. I eat them almost daily now at 8 weeks out.

Almonds and cashews are my go-to snack or on-the-go food.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
