Hi everyone, my name is Jessica and I just had surgery on June 30th. I am 31 and have 4 children. I weighed 244.5 the day of surgery and am wanting to get down to a healthy weight. My father passed away last year at 57 from heart disease related to his diabetes and it scared me to think of my genetic risks. I had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy and was able to get rid of it with a 40lb weight loss but haven't been able to lose more. I am hopeful that the surgery will help me live a longer happier life but I also have fears about it. I am hoping to gain a friend on here that has experienced surgery around the same time as me so that I have a supportive buddy to talk to.

When you are feeling nausea get a small bag of ice and place it under your chin

Hi all, I was also sleeved on June 30th. (8 days now) I had a rough start, nausea & vomiting for 3 days then things started getting better afterwards. I "thought" I was going to be able to go back to work right way, but my body & doctor said noooooo. So... Here at home drinking Protein Shakes, smoothies and broth!

Hi Jessica,

I have some similarities to you and would love to be a weight loss buddy. I am also a mom (of 2) and am 42. I was 245 pounds on the day of surgery after losing 10 pounds on the pre-op liquids. My surgery was on June 29th, and I had a one night stay in the hospital.

So far, it has been difficult for me to get in the required Protein and liquids. My discomfort has been manageable, and the only meds I used after I came home were the Reglan, which I stopped after my one week check up yesterday), and Prilosec, which I will continue using as I wake up each day with a heartburn/GERD feeling. Hoping that goes away. Tomorrow is supposed to be my first day of pureed foods, but I am thinking of putting it off for one day, as I am taking my daughter to a concert and am reluctant to change my routine because of that:)

I will try to "friend" you or send you a private message, but we will see how it goes since I am pretty new to this forum!

E~

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
