Former smokers. where ya at?

Recommended Posts

MyLastCigarette app is the best. I smoked for 15 years and I gave been a non-smoker for 1 year, 69 days, 16 hours, and 10 minutes. I used the nicotine patch and the My Last Cigarette app. The app helped the most. Here's what it tells you

I have spent over $30,000 on cigs in my 30ish years on earth.

Since I quit, I saved over $2,600. Plus a bunch of health related stuff. For example, I have added 35 days to my life. Over 4 million people have died of smoking related causes since I quit. Plus there's a nasty pic (usually cancer related) and a daily message. It tells you how many cigs you haven't smoked, 8,693 in my case.

I still miss smoking but I can look at the app and see how far I've come. When I first quit I would look at the app every day, multiple times. Now I just look at it every now and then.

For me the e-cigs were too close to real cigs. I kept cheating. Once I started the patch and the app, that was it. I haven't cheated once! It was/is an addiction for me. But I knew if I smoked on the patch I could/would have a heart attack or a stroke.

If you get the app, be sure and write down your quit date, costs, and habits so if you get a new smart phone you can input the same data. I learned that the hard way. GOOD LUCK to you and everyone quitting out there.

I'm with ya'll! I quit May 31st after smoking for 20 or so years....I can't do chantex or Wellbutrin (after bad reactions) Was going to use Patches but they didn't work either-so I went cold turkey after throwing out ashtrays, lighters & rest of carton--that actually worked!! I did briefly "Relapse" 3 times (Bought a pack, smoked 2 or 3) then was so disgusted I immediately discarded the rest! Instead of being hard on myself for that I feel stronger than ever!! Got right back up on that horse-everyone has to quit their own way! Continued luck to all!:)

@@Babbs - I don't know how you do it. My girlfriend has to go through this whole decontamination process because the smell and taste of cigs is really dang repulsive to me now. I don't know how the non-smoking women I dated in my mis-spent youth put up with it. Well it was the 80's and there was a lack of quality control....

Me back in the 1980's doing my student government thing, Marlboro's every handy, in a public meeting in a closed room, with horrible ventilation....what were we thinking? Oh yeah, getting away from the power perfumes of the day ;-).

I have been cutting back and know that on the 25th will be my "quit" day as that is the day that I will be meeting with the surgeon, NUT, pysch, etc. I will be starting my required 6 month medically supervised weight loss before I can get the surgery.

This is such an interesting thread for me to read. It's clear that everyone has a way that works... From Allen Carr, to patched, gum, lozenges, Chantix, an app, and vaping (the way that finally worked for me) to just powering through. It's clear that there are as many ways as there are people, really. Whatever works! Let's get this done!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
