Getting a Correct Fill

Recommended Posts

<p>I just got back from getting my second fill. The first one was done without the fluoroscope and I had no response to it whatsoever. This time they used the machine and I drank the barium and it was filled, then I plugged up, then unfilled a little, then the barium went through, and then filled a tiny bit after that. They think they got my "sweet spot". I am really wondering how on earth you could ever possibly accomplish a successful fill WITHOUT a fluoroscope! Watching the adjustment on the screen...it was VERY EXACTING. There's no way you could just guess at that kindof thing because we were also watching the degree and speed at which the liquid and barium flowed through the opening. I went from a 1.8 to about a 2.2 (omni). We shall see how long it lasts.</p>

Alot of fills that are done without flouro that I've heard of, the doctor fills the band up all the way, and has the patient drink some Water, then pulls just as much fill as they have to for the water to go down at a decent rate. I've only had a few fills, and they were all done with flouro, but just because that's what that doctor does. From what I hear, fills are more of an art than a science.

My doctor does all his fills without fluro. After my 1st 3 fills I could eat almost anything. After my 4th that all changed. I was anxious to get here but it was nice to "ease" into restriction too.

Wow, never heard of this "flouro". My doc doesn't use any machine, they just check the chart to see how much I have, then put some in the needle, pull out everything that's in the band to make sure, and then they inject. I've had two fills so far, and am still eating waaay too much. Haven't lost an ounce in a week! Getting my next fill in a week and a half. I'll tell him to give me as much as freaking possible!

Wow, it's GOTTA be an art form without the fluro. I watched as they put a tiny bit in, drank, watched it go down, pulled a little out, drank watched it go down, put a little more in, <repeat>. At one point when I was overfilled and it showed it, you wouldn't have been able to tell by drinking because the drinking went down fine, but we could SEE the restriction on the screen and knew it was too much. Man, Kudos to those folks who can get it done right by just guessing!

They dont generally use fluoro here in Australia, and it can take a while to get good restriction - I must admit I'd like to have it done that way now - I suspect I'm someone who could take the full 4ml in their band and not be overly restricted, and I'd just like to get it right for once and get this last 15lb off!

My doctor is appalled that they do fills without flouro. All my fills have been doon with flouro, and given how often I've needed them and how a tiny amount makes such a huge difference, I can't imagine doing it without flouro!

I wouldn't have lost nearly the weight I have lost, and I am slow to boot, if I had to work up to my restrictions every time I needed a fill. When I lose about 15 pounds, I always seem to need another one!

Some people find good results when eating up to 1 cup of food. If you are eating up to 1 cup and not losing you need another fill. I find that 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food is plenty. Good luck.

I can't wait till the day LOL.

My doctor doesn't do them with fluoro unless you've gotten something wrong going on.

I'm going to try 3 fills without, and if I'm still getting upset about no restriction I'm going to ask him to do it with fluoro.

I Have had 2 fills, w/o flouro, I don't even know what that is. My first fill I had no restriction, my second I have, I'm looking forward to the 3rd come July 18th, I know I'm restricted and feel it, its just not enough, I still eat to much.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
