Help cant stop snacking

Recommended Posts

Wow this site is inspirational.... I log on everyday now.....

Hi I have been banded for over a year in London. I have not had really any significant weight loss. I had a fill earlier this year and struggled so badly with it that in the end, they had to aspirate me (take all the fill out), then I had to wait a month (where I put on all the weight I lost). I know have about 6.5 ml and for the first time feel like I really want to try and give this a go. I am so envious when I hear everyone has lost so much weight. I am struggling with snacking, although I am now fuller much quicker, I am also hungry much quicker, is this OK? I am a bed time snacker and crisps are a downfall...any suggestions. Also I live in London (Middx) any local bandsters? Would love to meet and talk...

Even if you have to start with ALL hard to eat Protein and later add in some veges, that will help. I also have found that if I'm hungry, a few nuts will get me that full feeling agin quickly. How soon ater a meal are you drinking liquids? I found that I started feeling less full the sooner I drank Water, so I've had to wait 90 minutes after a meal to drink. Also, I don't think you are filled correctly yet.....it shouldn't be such a struggle. Don't kick yourself....keep in close touch with your doctor and support folks.

I will def try having some nuts to eat when I am hungry, I definately need to up my Protein levels. I drink about an hour after I eat, so will wait longer now to stay full longer. I had my surgery at a clinic in London, as I am now out of contract they are not very good with support, so I thought this site will have to be my support to help me lose weight and remain focussed. Thanks so much for your help.

I also have an issue with late night snacking. The things I've found that work best for not snacking are either deciding "I wont eat after X time", or having something to occupy my hands, like needle work or video games

I find that I can't sit in front of the TV at night if I'm in a snacking mood! If I really want to watch a show, I do it standing up and stretching or lifting weights or ANYTHING but sitting and eating! TV is a big trigger for me. So is my computer!

I was drinking Slim Fast Carb Control, but I've switched to EAS Carb Control. Lots of protien considering it's only around 100 calories. I'm really restricted in the morning, so I have one blended with fresh fruit, ice, frozen fruit, whey powder for extra protien, my daily chewable Vitamin, flax seed oil, and Benefiber. That gets me up around 230 calories and gives me usually my only fruit of the day. It doesn't seem to raise my blood sugar, so I don't crave later. Later in the day, if I crave chocolate, I can always have another EAS shake, blended with ice or straight, for only 100 calories.

At lunch I'm usually still pretty restricted so I have chili, gumbo, something mostly Protein with a "slider". I know I shouldn't technically have wet food and let it slide on through, but I'm really restricted, so it just helps me get some calories down. I stay full until around 4. Then the stuggle begins.

If I eat out at night I'm fine! meat and a vege or salad....I get through just the right amount and I'm full! So....it's the triggers at home that get me. I'm thinking I need to be sure to isolate my eating to exactly one spot in the house, one time, no distractions, and fight to build that habit.

Anyway, that's where I am with things....

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
