Aloe Vera and Post-Op Surgery Stomach Issues

Recommended Posts

My Mother once told me about all of the various cures, foods, etc. found in the Bible. One of these is Aloe Vera.

She had a Hispanic friend from a card club who had ulcers and used to come over and cut off some of the leaves from her plant, strip the outter skin and blend the rest, and then add it to a milkshake and drink it. We also used to use it for sunburns. It would take the sting out right away and within 20 minutes there was no longer any pain. Some Burn Centers grow it and use it to treat patients.

When I had my surgery in December 2014 I bought a gallon of Aloe Vera juice from a local Natural Foods store. I did a luittle research and found you only want juice extracted from Inner Fillet, without the skin. It seems there are reports of the skin containing some toxins.

I had it for a while and never tried it until my stomach started feeling a little meh and made me turn away from some foods I used to enjoy.

After two days of using the juice in my Crystal Lite my stomach felt a lot better. Now I use it exclusively when I am at home. 1-2 ounces in each drink up to eight ounces a day is what they recommend.

Has anyone else used it themselves? What have been your experiences? Is there any Medical information about using it internally?

Please let me know.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
