Wanting to Start A Houston (Westchase, Katy, Highway 6) Support Group

Recommended Posts

Hi all - looking to start a far southwest support group if anyone's interested. I was banded on April 24, 2007.

Looking forward to meeting fellow bandsters in the area.

I would be up for joining a support group. I live in Katy. I was banded on January 19th, 2007. I've lost 36 lbs and looking to lose another 30-40. I'm new at this and so how do we go about getting it started?

Hey everyone, How's it going? I was also banded on January 19th, 2007. My Weight loss has been decent so far, but I try to go to the gym whenever possible. I don't mind meeting with others and just talking about our banded life. I live in the galleria area.

Someone told me there is a Katy group from the Houston Yahoo Band group. Does anyone know if this is true? Of course starting our own would be GREAT, we just need to get it going!

Glad to see there's some interest in starting a group.

Let's start off with some polls:

Time: Weekend or weekday works best?

- if weekend - morning, afternoon, evening?

Venue: Restaurant, coffeehouse, other type of place?

Location: Katy (right off I-10), Highway 6, along Westheimer?

I know we'll have different ideas, but maybe a common thread will pull through.

If we seem to have enough interest, I'll set a date, time and place and we'll see who shows.

Hope we can get a group going - I've attended a support group - unfortunately it was all the way in the medical center - but, it was great talking to someone who really understands what lap band life is like.

OKay here are my preferences..

Weekday evening...Thursday or Tuesday say 630 or 7.

Westheimer or off 10 would be preferable

coffeehouse would be fine...Some of the local hospitals will host if requested...thoughts?

What fun. Weekdays or evenings during the week are better for me. Weekends are spent with hubby and kids. But what ever time and place you decide is great for me. I will make the time. If this is a Katy, Tx group why not closer to Katy. There are hundreds of restaurants and lots of Starbucks. I hope this takes off it sounds like such fun. Please girls lets get this off the ground. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. My band is August 1 so I will be ready for all the help and support I can get.

Nancy

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
