Tazwella 39 Posted July 2, 2015 I've read several posts from people who say their surgeon either left more of their stomach or left a larger opening because they'd had lapband. Why is this? Does it have to do with scar tissue from the band? Does everyone have scar tissue? I had my band out in May and will have the sleeve procedure in August. Now I'm nervous that I'll be left with a larger stomach after surgery and that it won't be as restrictive as I hope.
NewNewMe 277 Posted July 2, 2015 I don't know if mine is larger than someone who never had a band but I know it is WAYYY better for restriction than my band. You feel comfortably full with no interest to continue eating. No stuck, no throwing up, no slime. The biggest advantage to me is the lack of hunger.

You look like you're doing well with your sleeve! Congratulations!!!
hockeyfan7 249 Posted July 2, 2015 My surgeon told me he only removed 70% of my stomach instead of the typical 80%. He didn't want to wrap the stomach too tight because of the scar tissue at the spot where the esophagus goes into the stomach. He wanted that to line up better to avoid the chance of leaks. I still have good restriction but no throwing up and pain when I eat. So far, everything stays down. I was never able to eat chicken with my band and now I can. I like the feeling of eating small portions without getting sick. And I do not miss having that port at all!
CowgirlJane 14,260 Posted July 5, 2015 I think that each persons scarring /damage may vary. I was lucky... I revised from a band that never really worked to an awesome sleeve 3.5 years ago.
Jennifer Hathaway 12 Posted July 5, 2015 I asked my surgeon just before going into surgery June 25 if I would get a nice tight sleeve. He said he would get it tight just like anyone that never had a band. I can tell he got it small. I love this sleeve and so glad that band and port no longer control my life.
