2-3 weeks out, What are you eating?

I'm 2 wks post-op RNY and ready to start thinking about something besides Protein Shakes. I have my limited list from the dr with lots of milks and creamed Soup, yogurt, etc., you know the Puree stage. Just wondering what you found enjoyable in this stage. I'm okay with yogurt and soup, but the milks won't be working for me. Greek yogurt went down fine today, as did Amy's split pea soup (but not enough Protein for the half cup to count it as a meal). Suggestions? I would appreciate the input. I don't want to mess up the surgery. Thanks.

On the pureed stage I find I am having getting meals with much Protein. I will still have to have shakes (for a long time it seems). If you haven't checked out TheWorldAccordingToEggface website, be sure to do so. She has a recipe for Ricotta Bake that is basically a noodleless / meatless lasagna kind of thing. It was one of the first things I ate and it tasted SO good. Has some pretty good Protein count due to the cheeses.

Daisee, I'm having a hard time with the Protein also, and yes, still have to have the drinks. Funny, I have been looking at the ricotta bake and even bought the ingredients. Can't wait! How many weeks past surgery did you make it? What about refried Beans? I have pinned some of Eggface recipes, too. When was your surgery? Mine was June 16.

Thanks for the tips.

I just started week three and today I had a Protein Shake (25 gr) for Breakfast, Water throughout the morning, lunch was 1/2 cup puréed butter Beans and 1/2 cup Tomato bisque Soup, more water and Protein shake mid-afternoon (25 gr), supper was 1 cup tomato bisque soup. Also had a couple of SF Popsicles. I ended the day with 60 gr protein and 100 oz liquids. The puréed butter beans is the thickest thing I have had. I stomached it well.

I had RNY June 10. I made the cheese bake this week. It was very good. I also have refried Beans with a little cheese, cauliflower, applesauce, greenbeans, and yogurt and pudding. The next thing I'm going to try is roast beef hash. I've been trying to add something new every few days to see how it goes. Still can't do eggs though.

@@freelee - I had RNY on June 4. I was allowed pureed foods on June 15 and I made the Ricotta Bake that day for lunch. :) It is really good but I do fill up on it fairly quick. I do love fat free refried Beans and tolerate them well (as long as I don't eat it too fast which I made the mistake of doing yesterday). I add in a little greek yogurt to make it a little creamier and then some spices like cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and cilantro. Really hope my "incident" yesterday doesn't turn me off of the Beans because I did really enjoy them. I have tried scrambled eggs twice and while I tolerate them ok, I just don't really like them. I have always eaten eggs with salsa and just haven't been adventurous enough to do that yet. I can only eat about 1/2 the egg before I am just done. I have also tolerated pimento cheese very well. I saw a recipe where someone mixed unflavored Protein powder with the light mayo and then mixed in the cheese and pimentos but I admit I just bought the premade one and haven't added any Protein Powder to it yet. (I tried that with mashed potatoes and it was awful. I clearly made it wrong.) I have also tolerated hummus quite well. Still experimenting with everything. I am not an overly adventurous eater in the first place, so trying to take it slow. Oh, I also had some tortilla Soup with a little bit of chicken chewed really well and some avocado. All went fine with that too. Having people over for the holiday and plan on trying some chicken thighs cooked in the crockpot in broth (and lime and garlic and cilantro) and hoping it will be moist enough for me to try it. I won't be able to eat much but I think it will make me feel more "normal" like my guests. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
