New here! My introduction

Recommended Posts

I am excited to be here! I am 36, will be 37 next month. I am a stay at home mom of 7 kids. Once upon a time I used to weigh a mere 135 pounds. Well 15 years since I was pregnant with my first child, I now weigh in at 247 pounds. :faint: I never in a million years thought I would weigh this much. I have so much excess fat around my stomach from having children. It is gross! I have never admitted how much I weigh to anyone, so this is a bug step for me!

My youngest child is almost 16 months old and he is not breastfeeding anymore and my tubes are tied, so this is the right time to move forward! I have a surgical consult on July 18 and I cannot wait!!!! I look forward to getting this excess wieght off and having all of thius excess skin removed. :whoo:

Welcome aboard! You will find this site amazing, and the wealth of knowledge and experience is incredible. I have found everyone to be so helpful, and encouraging as well.

Congratulations on your BIG step. Although your journey is only beginning, take comfort knowing that there is always someone who is going through exactly what you at that moment and time. You must be so excited? Or perhaps you are scared .....

So many emotions are attached to this procedure. I have been banded since June 21, 2007, so am very new to all of this. I have to admit though, that at this point, there are no regrets. I welcome the future, and am looking forward to each stage as I progress towards my goals.

I have to tell you that the fact you have 7 children encourages me greatly, let alone your decision to consider the band. As far as I am concerned, there is nothing more rewarding, or deserving of a medal, than a woman who has raised multiple children. Compared to that job, this will be a breeze.

So ... with that being said, sit back, relax and enjoy this journey. Best of luck to you.:clap2:

Hey yall ,

Banded 7/16 in Houston, Dr. Terry Scarborough . Feeling better everyday!

As a 56 yr.old kidney cancer survivor ,the surgery was a snap and recovery is going right along. I know I just got here, but I have a question! The last two evenings about 9 or 10 I get this totally blotted feeling. I salivate a bunch and my lower stomach feels sick. I do about 2 dry heaves . Then everything is better and I get ok. Anybody ever heard of such a deal. Please let me know. Thanks and thanks for hav'in me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
