Recommended Posts

You cannot take Ibuprofen? How far out are you? I would, and I am 2 months out.

heating pad, hot Water bottle, Naproxen and good luck!

I was told no NSAIDs either and considering I have been taking Naproxen for the past two years on and off for a spine issue, im gutted as it worked so well.

You might see if you could get a script for Tramadol from your doc. It is not an NSAID, but does require a prescription.

Best of luck to you!

Ask your dr. Don't risk your new stomach. Ulcers and bleeds are serious

I was told absolutely no NSAIDS ever either. I had to give up my arthritis medication and it's been tough.

Tylenol is pretty useless but try liquid Tylenol and a heating pad. Or ask your doctor if they can give you a shot of something that won't go through your stomach.

I was told I'm ONLY allowed Advil for pain. Bizarre how wildly doctors vary on almost every part of WLS.

I was told NSAIDS are gone for life. I asked my surgeon why so many people say they can take them with no problem. He replied people may "think" they're not having problems, but often the PPIs disguise the erosion that's really happening and some others who don't take PPIs can't feel the problems because of the reduced stomach. It may take years for the problems to become obvious and by then it's a mess or too late. I'm erring on the side of caution and following ABS guidelines. No NSAIDS for me.

My menstrual cramps have been so severe since surgery im having to take norco the first day or two since no ibuprofen. A friend of mine had the sleeve 2 years ago and insisted she can still take ibuprofen because her surgeon said she could take it sparingly needless to say she just had to convert to bypass to fix all the erosion from the ibuprofen. I definitely need to look into other options because i cannot continue to go through this severe pain every month

I am so confused on this. One of the deciding factor for me, between BP and VSG was the NSAIDS issue. I knew that I was a high candidate for arthritis, so I didn't want to give up the NSAIDs option. I chose sleeve specifically because I could continue these meds. Was anyone else given this information?? Low and behold, a degenerative hip disease has surfaced, and I don't know how I would handle it without 800mg of Ibuprofen.

It may be that your surgeon was weighing risks vs benefits and leaned towards the sleeve for that reason. Most all of us are told no NSAIDs, ever. But, for people with other chronic medical issues, your surgeon should know your situation best and can make the best recommendation.

@@Inner Surfer Girl I agree with you on always checking with your surgeon. However, when I was doing my due diligence research before the surgery, I found this information many times. I often wonder on that disparity.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
