INSURANCE PAY FOR YOUR PROTEIN SHAKES

Recommended Posts

I tried to do that and all I got was MULTIPLE emails and phone calls needing important info BEFORE they could process my insurance, JUST to see if I was eligible. I filled out a survey and they called EVERYTIME questioning if I wanted to try this flavor, or buy this (not Protein stuff), etc...

My family and I are on a strict budget, but I was Able to so far save over $300.00, in the past 2 months just by going online and researching products, sometimes even paying pennies on the dollar in comparison to what my doctor's office carried, including Vitamins, I paid $49.99 for a 5lbs can of chocolate Protein, which if I had to buy at my doctor's office would have been $60.00 per bag so $180.00 for the same amount, if your willing to the work and research you can save!!!

@@agalindo17 thanks for saying that because I was already going stir crazy because I was home for 12 days. I was really irritated by the 3rd or 4th call. they were extremely persistent. I thought maybe it was me in post-surgery monster mode!

It might be easier just to call your insurance company directly and ask them if they cover your Protein shakes and what they require to do so. They should be able to tell you. I have not called mine at this point because I did not think it was an option, but you never know.

My insurance would not pay......they have a CAP on anything concerning Bariatrics. I have received a lot of free samples. I contact the company directly and ask if they will send samples for me to try. Some have been completely free for me in turn to write a review. Some want you to pay the shipping. It is a great way to test the product without investing a lot of money.....you never know if you do not ask???

Most insurances don't cover Protein. Insure Nutrition knows that so they try to get customers to agree to order things like scar creams, that they charge insurance companies an inflated price for, then they'll send the shakes and Vitamins. Here a link to another post with more details.

They should take the ads off of bariatricpal.com if the company is fishy.

I must say I was very excited about the Protein shakes. I was told my Insurance would pay for the shakes and my Dr just needed to sign the Rx and fax back. Well my Dr. sign the Rx but my Dr. would not sign for the wound cream b/c I am 5 years out and did not need the cream. Contacted Insure and was told it was a package deal and to get the shakes my Dr had to sign the Rx. after my Dr left several messages to the company trying to find out why she had to prescribe something I did not need....Needless to say the company never did return my Dr calls and therefore My Dr felt it was a scam and would not sign for the Rx. I contacted INsure myself told them my Dr was trying to contact them and the young lady never would address the question...anyway I was told I did not have to have the wound cream and they will rerun and see would my insurance cover just the shakes....Ok guess what....once again I was told If my Dr don't sign for the wound cream ins will not pay for the shakes....I was very disappointed b/c I love the shakes ...oh well back to buying them from Sams.

That's the deal. They are actually billing insurance for the cream at an inflated price that covers the cost of the Protein shakes. Many doctor's office refuse to deal with them at all. If you shop around you can get deals on your own. Plus you get the option to taste test and find Protein Shakes you like. I like Isopure. Many people don't. I find the best deal for me was getting a GNC membership and buying from them. They often have sales and specials. I also occasionally use CVS brand vanilla whey instead of coffee Creamer. It runs about $20 for a 2lb tub but I always have coupons from my CVS care card and usually end up paying around $13 - $15. Premier Protien is another popular brand and they are sold at Costco's and other discount stores.

Thank You BLERDgirl for the information....I was very disappointed to read the reviews on Insure some are good and some not so good....I really do like the shakes.. Oh I forgot to mention when I talked to the young from Insure she ask me do you have another Dr we can send the Rx to who will sign.....Really....RED FLAG!!!! I will rather spend my money on the shakes then to be caught up in a scam.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
