Hi! I'm 5 days out and feeling great overall... My main issue is soreness... Right upper abdomen started out as being sore upon movement now it's more of a burning pain... Pulling sensation... I'm sure this is prob normal due to the craziness that has gone on in the inside recently... Lol.... But the burning part of the pain concerns me some.. Area is tender when pressed... Just this one area... Anyone else experienced the burning pain???

Hi rfitz72! I experienced a similar pain in my upper right abdomen. According to my surgeon it's normal... Apparently the liver retractor they use can rub against your lower ribs, causing some soreness. Mine lasted probably for a week after. I'm now 2.5 weeks out and the pain is completely gone! Anyway hope that gives you some peace of mine, but I would say if it lasts for longer than the next few days or so, or gets worse, give your surgeon a call.

Hi I am 4days out and have not experienced that pain. I am wondering how much Protein you have been able to get in? Today I got one pack of 27g in a 16oz bottle of Water. I was full and bloated all day too. Couldn't get anything else down. Wondering if you or anyone else can tell me if that's normal for you.

Hey!!! I've been getting in 60 grams of Protein a day...... I'm using Boost (15g) Premier (30 g) and Unjury (31g).... It takes me a long time to drink them.... Usually, 20-40 minutes each time I drink one.... No nausea since 2nd day out.... The shakes are really starting to get me though, hard to even smell them at times... I blend a little ice in with mine, it makes it easier for me to tolerate.... Good luck to u!

Wow your Protein intake is great. I have Bariatric Advantage from my docs office. Im going to see if I can find either unpaired or chicken flavored to add to broth tomorrow. I may buy some boost too. I haven't had nausea either, just takes forever to get anything down. Thank you for responding! Good Luck to you too!

Correction. Unflavored

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
