What just happened to me?

Recommended Posts

I made low fat broccoli and beef for dinner tonight. Within 15 minutes of finishing dinner I started not feeling well. I left to take my daughter to band practice and on the way the not feeling good became a pain in my stomach. I spent the 5 minutes driving home focusing on not vomiting. When I got home I went straight to the restroom. I then spent the next 30 minutes in pain over the toilet. I vomited mucous several times, then finally some of my dinner came up. The pain has lessened, but I still feel sick to my stomach. I have never had anything like this happen to me in the 3 months since surgery. I don't know if I ate too much, ate too fast, or just at l ate something that didn't agree with me.

Did you chew it well enough? Perhaps the broccoli was too raw for your stomach and it couldn't handle it?

If it continues to happen even just a couple more times i recommend talking to your doctor. I had that happen four time in four months once i was post op and had to have my gallbladder removed. Turns out it was gerd starting from the surgery. Sitting in the hospital now being treated for gerd and a week post op from gallbladder removal. In my case i never felt any heartburn and the acid was all happening inside my stomach without me knowing it. Good luck and hopefully just a one off for you! ????

I agree with @autumn23242. Have your gallbladder checked out if it happens again.

The same thing happened to me - but I am only 3 1/2 weeks out so I figured it just was me not eating well enough. The first time with tuna and it was my first try at it, so I thought I just didn't tolerate it well. Today I had refried Beans at lunch which I have eaten a lot of times without issue but maybe I ate too fast or didn't chew it well enough? (I had changed brands and noticed they were not mashed as well as the previous brand I used.) Anyway, vomiting at work then left to drive home and had to pull over in a parking lot. Same as you - food but mostly mucous. I just had a very small amount of Soup for dinner and everything seems fine, so I will chalk mine up to eating too fast and not chewing and just keep an eye on it. I hope yours never happens again!

It's called the slimes or foaming. You ate too fast and your body built up saliva and mucus. Eat slooooowwwweeerrr.

I actually had the same thing happen to me. My surgeon called it "slim" she e planned that is is the body's way of helping food pass down into the stomach. She told me occasionally it could cause pain and I would throw up the slim. I notice when something isn't going down too smoothly I get phlegm also, she said it was all normal. But to reassure yourself call your dr.

I'm also only 3 1/2 weeks out and tuna salad did the same thing to me. It's called the foamies and it happens if you eat too much too fast...even though you think you are taking your time, it still comes up. It's all part of the relearning process I think!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
