BariActiv chewable multivitamins - strong reaction (empty stomach?)

Recommended Posts

Post sleeve, just had the strangest reaction to these Vitamins. Within 2 minutes, sweats, diarrhea and the urge to vomit. I sipped Water to help move it on through, hoping to avoid vomiting.

Anyone else had an experience with this particular Vitamin brand? I'm wondering if this happened because I took them on an empty stomach?

I take those mulitvitamins, the Iron and the Calcium. I don't think I have ever taken the mulit's on a completely empty stomach. I have the Calcium and it was fine. I've always had at least a Protein shake on my stomach before taking the mulit.

I put one in my mouth, started to chew and instatnly threw up. There is something in those that did not agree with my stomach right away.

I switched over to OptiSouce Post Bariatric Vitamin Chews and have had no issue since.

I threw up the Bariatric Advantage multi when I accidentally took it on an empty stomach. Tummies do not like these Vitamins without other stuff in there. I was only 2 1/2 weeks out, thus it was quite uncomfortable. I take the Vitamins with some food. The Calcium goes ok without food or with a shake, but there needs to be a bit in my tum to do the vitamins. Sorry it happened to you!

I was told to always eat before taking multi-vitamins.

I take BariActiv and haven't had an issue except I got way too full too fast when I tried to take it before eating and then ate on top of it. Since then I only take it after I eat. Sorry you are having trouble with them but sounds like you aren't the only one!

I got on these things through the appointment with a nutritionist back in April. While I didn't have surgery until this week, this stuff started coming monthly in May. Now that I am trying to use them (started prior to surgery) I find them absolutely repulsive! They are too big, too citric, too dry... just awful. The only thing I can bear are the weekly nasal Nascobal. I think I am gonna cut my losses and find something that will not make me gag and heave each time I have to take them. PLUS you have to take 2 at a time, twice a day, and at least two hours away from Iron. I'm a teacher going back to work in three weeks. If I am getting nauseous that much every day, let's just say that ain't cool. Looks like others are not pleased with this stuff either. Sorry I didn't do my own research on this one... I've got threefour months of the things sitting here.

Yes same here. I didn't know what it was either until now. It all makes since. But yeah I would sweat, get nauseated, and a lil dizzy. I didn't know u had to eat but this morning I drank my shake then Vitamins and no problems. So that's what I will do from here on out!

BariActiv Vitamins have some sugar alcohols in them (though not a large amount). I have read that post bariatric surgery sometimes people are sensitive to those. Taking it with food would slow the absorption so it makes sense that it would help.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
