jwmoss 2 Posted June 29, 2015 I have seen my doctor twice now, met with a nutritionist, a psychiatrist, sent and received several emails with my doctor's nurse and coordinator and no one has brought up a pre-op diet. Is this not a universal thing with surgeons? I'm worried that I've missed something now! Thanks, Janna
zonetracy 53 Posted June 30, 2015 (edited) I did not have a pre op diet. They asked me to lose 10-15 lbs before surgery (I lost 9) and 1 day of liquids the day before surgery. That was it Oh and my insurance said i had to be in their program 90 days before i could have the surgery so appointments were scheduled 1 month a part for 3 months then i could set a surgery date. The appointments included diet and exercise info as well as a visit with the surgeon. Edited June 30, 2015 by zonetracy
BizzyB 119 Posted June 30, 2015 This is different among surgeons. I had to do two week liquid diet due to my BMI... I dropped 26 quick pounds so I was pretty excited. A lot of people didn't have to do any pre op dieting at all. I'd just recommend going withe your surgeon's instructions. It sure is a blessing to not have to do the two weeks liquid! ShrinkingPeach 1,291 Posted June 30, 2015 The purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver for surgery. Everyone doesn't have to do the diet. Just follow the surgeon's instructions and all will be good.
gwenbfine 4 Posted June 30, 2015 (edited) I did 2 weeks Protein Shakes only pre-op. Then 1 mo Protein Drinks only post-op. Just moved to pureed foods yesterday for 30 days. Then soft foods for 30 days. Finally add all normal food Aug 31. My surgery was May 29th. Sounds like I have a strict team. neortiz2 6 Posted June 30, 2015 My sister and I both used Kaiser. She did not have to do the pre op diet, just the 2 days of liquids. I am doing the pre op diet 3 weeks out! Maybe it depends on the surgeon.
WontonAnimalChIndo 18 Posted June 30, 2015 Only a three day clear liquid diet for me. Started it today, surgery is on Thursday.
chopsitter 30 Posted June 30, 2015 I went thru all my appointments and waited for the insurance approval. When I found out about it and set the date, that's when they told me of my 2 week liquid diet.< /p>
TN_Gal 15 Posted June 30, 2015 I only had a one day, full liquid diet prior to surgery. Everything went well and I'm 7 weeks post-op tomorrow!
