Sores from excess skin

Recommended Posts

I hate asking this but does anyone have any ideas how to stop the sores in your groin area from excess skin? I don't want to dry it out with powder but it is getting really red, sore and itchy. I am 9 months out and I have lost 80 lbs and am running out of ideas. HELP please.

What is your specific issue with powder? My bariatrician has me using Gold Bond Medicated Powder and it does the job without drying out my skin. She said that the next step would be a prescription for a medicated cream.

I was told to use monistat at night and was given a rx for Nystatin powder to use during the day. I blow dry the area to make sure it is really dry after bathing. I also shower after my workouts as well. Make sure you tell your doctor and have them keep good documentation of the infections. Your insurance company will be more likely to approve removal of skin if this is done.

Are you experience chub rub? Try the monistat chafing gel. Make sure you are documenting your issues. Take photos and make sure your doctor makes note of them. This may be helpful in requesting your insurance company cover skin removal surgery.

Thank you all for your help I will get some gold bond powder. My insurance says it will cover it if it is a medical necessity so I am taking pictures (yuk) and documenting. They won't do anything until at least 12 months out. I think the main problem I have is it is getting moist from the skin hanging down on it. If i wear something that will hold it up a little it isn't as bad.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
