Preop Diet Week 1 in the books

Recommended Posts

So I'm done with week one of my pre-op Atkins diet & down 6 pounds. I wish I could say I was excited and happy and thrilled, but I'm just not. I'm pissed and I want some cake. LOL!!! (Guess this is how I got here, huh?)

I think it's mostly head hunger at this point. I LOVE LOVE LOVE sweets. I'd much rather have a cookie than a steak. My son told me last night "Mom please have a cookie, I think you'd be a lot happier" LOL!!!! Bless his heart.

I want something sweet SO BAD. I did a chocolate Protein Shake yesterday with ice & added a tbsp of Peanut Butter, that did it for a little bit... I'm a bit surprised at how much sweets I ate! I think I ate more sweets & junk than regular food. I've often skipped lunch for a candy bar, I'm ashamed to say :(

Any suggestions? Other than "suck it up buttercup" lol! What did you all eat to curb a serious sweet tooth?

Make a chocolate Protein shake and freeze it for about 30-40 minutes. It will be like a chocolate milkshake.

During my pre op I did shakes with 1/2 a banana ( was allowed just one a day with banana) and Peanut Butter. That seemed to help

It gets easier, it really is a physical addiction. If you continue to avoid all carbs, flour, sugar, potatoes, rice, Pasta, bread and starchy veggies and focus on lean/fat free Protein and non-starchy veggies, the cravings WILL subside. It'll DEFINITELY be easier AFTER surgery. Even now, if I eat any of those foods, I fight cravings for days, when I don't eat them, I don't even miss them. You are doing great, stay strong and keep your eye on your goal, the reason you are doing this

a tiny portion occasionally, no more than a few bites, no more than 1 or 2 times a month, won't kill you, but be prepared for cravings. Maybe you could recreate some of your favorite sweets. I make cannoli cream, flourless Protein pancakes, pizza, protein Cookies & muffins. Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt is amazing and comes in great flavors. Quest bars have many great flavors, and you can also cook with them. The chocolate chip one, bakes up into yummy cookies. Just cut one up, bake a t 350, watch closely as it only take a few minutes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
