Hi! I was just wondering if anyone knows how soon after your lap band surgery you are permitted to take a shower???

Thanks!:rain:

I showered the first day......being very careful not to let the Water directly hit the incisions.......Be sure to ask your doctor though; we all have had different incisions ("glue"; staples; disolvable sutures; etc)

I was able to shower the next day, but my staples were kept dry with the Op-Site (clear bandage) covering them.

On Day 3. We were told to take off the gauze bandages on Day 3 and that you were able to shower on Day 3. The steri-strips and sutures still covered the incisions. We were told to remove the steri-strips by Day 7 - 10, if they didn't fall off in the shower before then.

my doctor said the same day as well but not to let it get the incisions soaked. so that means to me hurry up and wash the neccessary areas

Depends on what your doc used....I have the clear dermabond bandage with no sutures or staples, so I could shower 24 hours later. I did notice that one area had teeny tiny blood spots, so I put a Water block bandage over that area.

Banded June 27, 2007, Dr. Jose Erbella and Dr. Gary Bunch, Bradenton, Florida, VG band.:usa:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair. Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end. That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
