The breath thing I never knew was from Ketosis!!! I was worried BC I was sleeved June 10 and I wake up like damn... This taste is nasty!! Did anyone have irritation in the back or their throat with that?

Yes I have slight irritation with mine! Sometimes if I drink flavored Water or milk I can really tell. You're not alone!

Yup, ketosis. The good news is that weight loss goes hand-in-hand (mouth-in-mouth?) with ketosis. Buy more Listerine and Breath Savers and watch the pounds melt away!

The irritation in your throat could be from the tube they used to ventilate you during surgery...but I ended up at one week out with the NASTIEST case of oral thrush. It was uncomfortable to drink. It looked like white spots on my tongue, back of throat, and even gums. It was fairly easy to treat with a prescription of liquid Nystatin.

The breath and bad taste is probably from Ketosis.

Good Luck on your journey!

I haven't been sleeved yet, but would the product Biotene work? When my daughter went through cancer/chemo she would rinse with Biotene to help with dry mouth. It helps moisturize the mouth.

Biotene is certainly worth a try. Also the Listerine strips help as do the Gas X mint meltaway strips. I get nasty metallic tastes too and these do help.

Make sure you brush your tongue or get even a tongue scraper if needed,

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
