Band Date July 5th! Hooray!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know I am doing fine except I have a time with urinating. It takes a while to get going as well as I have pain in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen (port site). I was banded this morning 7:30am had some nausea postoperatively but improved after medication. I was sent home @ 2:30pm. I am surprise as to the recovery I have had from this morning to now. Well I just wanted to let you know how things are going. I am about to walk around a little to ease the discomfort and chew on some crushed ice chips.

Congrats! Sounds like you are doing pretty well after surgery. That's great!

I am not banded yet. I am waiting for approval by BCBS of Georgia. I saw in one of your other posts that you had BCBS and they did not cover the band. Was it BCBS of Georgia? They told me it is covered, but so far they have been a pain in the butt.

Take care. I hope your recovery is an easy one!

Thank you for the link to your story. What an uphill climb it's been for you. I'm glad you finally got the surgery - your persistence paid off & now look at you, on your way to the "new you". Congratulations. Keep us posted on your progress. I'm just now beginning the climb up insurance hill. Wish me luck!

Yes it was BCBS I had. BCBS covers the surgery it depends on what coverage employers select. My employer did not select Bariatrics under their plan.

Today I've been feeling very uncomfortable all due to gas! What has helped me is walking around and Zantac. Other than that I'm ok.

I was banded yesterday and today am still at the clinic until I get taken back to the hotel but thought i'd have you all know it was wonderful! I am super duper excited for everything that is about to take place! I was fortunate enough to have a sweet girl that allowed me to see her get her fill done. :clap2: I wasn't as bad as I thought! Anyway, today I've had a few sips of juice and broth, that's about it. Surprisingly I'm not hungry. Just eager to get up and moving again! I am SO excited!! YAY!

Hey Lindsey,

Glad everything went ok with your surgery! I'm day two postop of my surgery and I haven't been hungry either. Today I've had four sips of Protein drink and one spoon of yogurt. I feel like I've eaten at a buffet. I am sooo full. The main problems I've had is gas. If you do not have any liquid gas medicine please get some. Other than the gas everything else seems ok. Congratulations and lets keep in touch with our progress.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
