I might be freaking out but....

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 days out and I've only lost 3 pounds, and from a very high starting weight. Super discouraging! :(

I'm consuming an average of 450 calories daily, and have been walking moderately.

Don't freak out and don't weigh everyday. You probably gained Water weight after surgery so you have lost that plus the 3 pounds. Some people gain as much as 10 pounds with the surgery. I gained about 7. I remember waking up in the middle of the night about 6 days out and felt like a peed for an hour lol. And there went the rest of the IV fluids. What you are going through is normal.

In the beginning your body is kind of in shock. Keep doing what you are doing and the pounds will come off. I thought I hadn't really lost that much, but now looking at how much I've lost in 3 months I'm doing great. Don't stress.

Weighing every day is definitely one of my weaknesses. Thank you for the support, I will just have to take it slower and not get so caught up on numbers!

6 days out your body is still changing, I even hit a stall at day 10 or so, be ready for the first month to be a lot of up and downs or not moving at all...I just hit week 5 and am just now starting to lose again.

my dr prepared me for a realistic expectation of about 2-4 lbs a week, I have mentioned in other posts my sweet husband took my scale away the first week, maybe you should do that too.

I weigh maybe once a week, but def judge my new life on how I feel! you will feel better and have more and more energy..day 6 is just the beginning..congrats on starting your journey!

I also hit a stall at about the 8th day out. I also felt very discouraged. 4 days nothing even went up a pound on one of those days! But I checked this morning and I'm down the 1 I gained plus another. I'm addicted to the scale. I think it's only natural after what we all went through and the journey we chose to take. But trying to do the once a week scale thing sounds like a great idea. I am 12 Days post op and 13 lbs down. Yay.

That certainly can be discouraging. I lost a 30 lbs. in the first 4 weeks and then hit a 3 week stall. Bottom line, there is no reason for concern unless it is 3 lbs in 6 MONTHS! Focus on your surgery recovery and make sure you are getting your walks in! It will happen.

I weighed exactly the same as surgery day on day 11 (that's the first time I weighed myself postop. I didn't step on the scale again until week 7 and I was down 17 pounds. Just concentrate on Water, Protein, healthy choices and learning new habits. Enjoy the NSVs and stay off the scale.

I'm almost three weeks out and hit a stall. I lost a quick 20lbs right after the surgery and now I am holding firm. I too step on the scale every single more... sometimes night and morning. I know it's not a great thing to do but when it does move... it makes my entire day! lol I just keep doing what I am to be doing, trying to get in Water and protein!

Hang in there!

Don't feel discouraged. It's gona take around a month or two to really see results! Try to only weigh yourself at doctor visits. It gives you something to look forward to & it makes or more exciting!! Good luck, Hun!

I gained 9lbs during my 2 day hospital stay! I thought "well damned if I'm the only one who can have WLS and GAIN weight!" -- but I lost it a few days after coming home.

IV fluids, swelling, inflammation, etc.

I became severely dehydrated about 3 months postop from diarrhea and had to get IV fluids. (4 liters before my HR came back down and BP came back up) I gained 11 pounds in 1 day. That's why daily weight fluctuations mean NOTHING. Water retention/hydration status plays a huge role in what the scale says. It has nothing to do with actual fat weight.

Yeah, I'll be 3 weeks out tomorrow and haven't weighed myself since week 1 and my monthly cycle started today so I'm definitely not going to weigh myself for another week or so. My clothes are getting looser every week though!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
