Largest Incision -- How Long.....

Recommended Posts

I was banded 2 weeks ago today. The large incision just under my left breast started to "ooze" a little today. The steri-strips are still on it and have not fallen off (my dr. said to leave them on until they fall off on their own). When I noticed the bottom corner of the strip was lightly blood tinted, I pulled it up a little just to see it, and it's not looking good. It should be pretty much healed after 2 weeks, shouldn't it?

It's been very painful, as a week ago, I stretched one morning without thinking and it hurt pretty bad. I've only been able to sleep on my left side for 2 nights now, as it was too painful to lay on.

I've put a call in to the dr., but haven't heard back yet. So I wanted to get anyone's input on this while I wait.

Thanks.

It could be infected, I would clean it and put polysporin on it. And have the doctor look at it.

I was banded on the 18th and the doc told me to take the strips off after a few days, maybe the strips have been on too long? They probably need airto heal.

Thanks for the responses -- the dr. finally called last night. We've been told to keep the strips on until they fall off on their own. Said to put peroxide on it and if the oozing starts to look greenish, then to come in.

Have a great day!!!!

Ladyblue-I'm assuming your incision healed since this post is from a few months back. How long did it take your large incision to heal? I am 10 days post op and my largest one doesn't seem to be closing up...or at least not as fast as most say theirs do. My steri strips are still on it. I took the ones off all the others tonight because my doc said I could after 7 days but I waited a few extra days. Did yours take awhile to finally close up? Thanks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
