So, 3 days out and I'm feeling less discomfort as far as gas and weird pains go (yay!!) I've been walking and getting around great (even went to the mall to walk...and of course, shop????). However, I'm convinced that the surgery was not actually performed (yes, I'm being sarcastic). I still feel extremely hungry. I hear so many people say that they had to force themselves to eat...uh, not me. The feeling of hunger is so strong it is distracting and uncomfortable. It doesn't help that every blessed commercial on TV is advertising delicious and carb-riddled foods. Has anyone else experienced this? Will this go away?

I would suggest, stop watching tv!! It sounds like head hunger, not real hunger. Do you actually have hunger pangs? That hasn't happened to me, but sometimes I just feel like eating. And I hated my lunch today so I couldn't wait til dinner.

Maybe it is head hunger...I feel like my stomach is growling too, causing me to feel even hungrier. BUT, maybe my brain is making all this mess happen...ugh!! Very frustrating...

Could be head hunger. Try drinking Water and see if it helps when you feel hungry. And use your DVR so you can fast forward through the commercials. ☺️

At 3 days out I definitely was not hungry. I didn't even have head hunger. I was still in pain and not interested in anything at all. I am one who had to force Water and Protein. Now a little over a month out and I am just now starting to feel empty and only really after the gym. But I will say that if I am late on my PPI then I can have a sensation that could be mistaken for hunger. Are U taking a PPI? If so I would then I would think you are thirsty and head hunger.

I'm 5 days out. I have no problems drinking liquids and Protein Shakes. Whether it's head hunger or real hunger - I have it. I swear I was less hungry on my pre-op liquid diet.< /p>

rear624 and wascott, are you on acid inhibitors like Prilosec? Excess acid in the sleeve will mimic hunger. Our Dr. started us on day 3 with Prilosec just to avoid this sensation and further said we almost all will have acid reflux and need to take as daily maintenance. Just a thought, check with your Doc.

My doctor put me on omeprazole...I'm wondering if this is not doing the trick. I know my mother said it doesn't work for her (and she is not a bariatric patient). I should discuss this with the doc when I go on July 2

I definitely get hungry also. It is excruciating! I was told by my PCP that the pain was so bad because my stomach had just been cut into and like any incision it will hurt. I have learned to not let myself get empty. I sip Protein Water or water constantly. I don't really crave food but stuff sure does look good and smell good.

I get to start creamy Soups next week. Hopefully that will help. I have to wait until day 18 to start pureed foods and cottage cheese. I can also start eggs then.

I was sleeved 6/1 and I was very hungry too. The good thing is that once my body got used to my new stomach size (about 5 days out) my hunger went away. I think it takes a bit for your body to adjust to your new stomach size. Everything is going great 4 wks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
