Hello everyone! Have not been around in a while. I am 6 weeks post op and have been dealing with Diverticulitis for about 2 weeks now  ! When I have a flare up it stops me from be active and this is no time for that! I have no idea what triggered the flare up but it is rough. DOES ANYONE ELSE SUFFER FROM THIS? And if so, what do you do? Really need some suggestions! Oh yeah, when is it cool to start drinking with a straw?? Thanks in advance.

Keep your heads up, we can do this! :);)

So sorry for your flare up, I have no experience in that area. As for the straw, my nutritionist said 2-3 months but I am better able to get my liquids in with one so I started at 5 weeks out. It didn't cause me any problems. Good luck and I hope you get through your flare up soon!

I'm sorry you're having to deal with the diverticulitis and the pain, unfortunately I do not have an answer for you on that front.

Regarding using straws, my surgeon would like me to stay away from using them, but I have on occasion used one (use to use them all the time pre-surgery). I believe we're to avoid using straws because we suck up so much more air using a straw than when we just drink our beverages. Sometimes I'm so thirsty that a straw seems to help me drink more liquid.

I have had diverticulitis, but not since surgery - April 11! Before, my dr would prescribe an antibiotic and some pain melds, so I could deal with the severe pain. That always worked quickly!

I was hoping the WLS would help with the diverticulitis but I guess not for me  .

Yes I have been on antibiotics for a week and a half and no relief. Doc says she may put me in hospital for IV antibiotics I sure hope not!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
