Losing TONS of inches but not #'s on scale, is this possible?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am a newbie to this board, so if this issue/question has been asked and answered before, please excuse my ignorance.

I am 6 months out, I have gone from a size XXL to a small. (the small runs big) I still have about 30-35 lbs. to get to goal. But this nagging question is WHY am I losing inches and NOT weight.

I went to my PCP 3 months after surgery, and stepped on his scale and weighed the same as two week post opt visit, yet I went down two sizes in clothes. How is this possible????? I went home and cried...thinking my surgery is not working, what am I doing wrong, help, etc.

I know I sound like I am complaining but it is nagging me. My surgeon said "don't get hung up on #s from the scale" well this correct and ok. But my curiosity is getting to me, why don't the numbers on the scale show???

At first I was depressed, and the answers I get: "don't get worried about #'s" "just keep doing what your doing and forget the scale" BUT I CAN"T .... call me crazy.

Anyone with a logical explanation????

I'm in the same spot....losing inches but not pounds (at least not fast pounds). I chalk it up to building muscle, burning fat, thus the inches lost, but not the pounds. I changed up my strength building/resistance workout a couple weeks ago to hopefully ramp up the weight loss, but that hasn't resulted in that change.....yet. My clothes keep getting bigger so that's what I'm going with, and to keep doing what I'm supposed to be doing food-wise.

Are you doing strength training? That will build muscle which is denser than fat. And does the number on the scale really matter if you are in a small in clothing? Are you happy with the way you look?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
