I need to save $3,000 in 3 months

Recommended Posts

I'm getting the sleeve in October and although the procedure is covered by insurance i still need to have $3,000 for copay, deductible, etc. Any suggestions on how to save that amount of money in 3 months?

I have heard people talk about Credit Care which is basically a medical credit card. I think the have 0% financing for the first few months. Maybe that is an option?

Or could you possibly pick up a part time job for the next couple of months?

financing is the easiest answer, but not everyone can qualify. If your credit isn't good enough to qualify for financing...

1. Share your story on GoFundMe or a similar site and let friends, family or even people on this forum chip in for the cause. $3000 should be pretty easy to raise. I'd donate to your cause.

2. Figure out the weekly amount you need to save. Put that amount into a savings account each week. The smaller weekly amount makes it easier to find ways to save. Pack your lunch, eliminate Starbucks, stop luxury things like manicures and hair styling.

3. If you own a vehicle, you can get a title loan even if you have terrible credit. The interest is crazy high, but it might be worth it.

4. Ask the hospital finance department if it's possible to pay half up front and monthly payments after surgery.

I would definitely not get a title loan for this. If you can't save enough in three months then maybe you need more time. Don't risk to your car or getting into a hole of debt you can't get out of.

Otherwise, cut out all nonessentials.

Getting a part time job is a good idea if you are able as someone else mentioned.

If you have a 401k, this is one of the few times where it might be a good idea to take a loan from it.

Some other ideas:

See if any of your friends, family, neighbors need a project or chore done that they would be willing to pay for (again if you are able): teach them how to use their computer, clean out their closet, babysit, etc.

You might see if you have any clothes you could sell on consignment or eBay. Have a garage sale.

Have a bake sale!

I am sure other people may have more ideas.

Im in similar boat. Surgery for me in August. Procedures like egd and psyc visit count toward deductible but you dont have to pay entire balance for them at once. I was able to pick up extra shifts for part. I considered having sleep study as well just to help meet deductible. Good luck!

Well, doing the math for you, you have to save $1,000 a month.

You're welcome.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
