Bypass 3 weeks out...not sure.

Recommended Posts

We all went through the insurance required 7 months or so of nutrition counseling and weight management. Through out that whole process, I guess all I focused on was how thin I was going to be and not as much on my lifestyle changes. I am 3 weeks out and have had many thoughts of...what the heck have I done? I am on pureed now which is better than pure liquids, but I have major cravings every food commercial or even when I drive by the darn McDonald's. Weight loss has only been 14 pounds which seems ridiculous because I am probably only consuming 400-500 calories a day and exercising. I know it is done now and no going back, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I have buyers remorse. Anyone else feel this way?

YES. All the time before the surgery, even a couple of times after. But it gets easy after surgery because you CAN'T eat that stuff. Then your taste buds change, and you start to enjoy the healthier stuff. It's not always an easy process but I am so glad I went through it and I have yet to meet anyone who's had bypass who wishes they hadn't. Hang in there, it really does get easier.

Yes! Just talked to my therapist about it yesterday. (I am also 3 weeks out today - same weight loss as you too.) She said it is a totally normal emotion - which made me feel better. Just know it is an emotion that comes and goes. When it creeps up on you, try to stay in the present - focus on right now, today, this meal. Have a popsicle. Go for a walk. Call a friend. Turn the tv off. (I don't recommend watching food Network as I have done :D ) Emotion is a thing - it has a beginning, middle and an END. This emotion will pass. PROMISE!

As my nut told me, watching food commercials and the food network is literally food porn. It does not help your head hunger and cravings at all.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
