Recommended Posts

Hey there. I'm 2 1/2 mos. out and I'm only down 34lbs. It takes about a wk for my scale to move just 1lb. ????

I'm getting in all my Water (70) I'm getting about 60-70 Protein. & I'm eating about 900-1000 calories a day not doing more then 40 carbs. And I'm going to the gym about 4x a wk 1 hr.

So what's really going on. ??!

Almost 14 pounds per month sounds normal to me.

You think so ?? I know I shouldn't compare myself to others but I get frustrated when I see people at the same point as me and they are down way more

Thanks for the feedback ????

Everyone is different. I know people who have gotten stuck at my weight and then start losing again. Be patient.

I was told to get more Protein like 70-100 grams. Try that so your body is forced to eat fat

If you're working out that much, the body feels starved if it's not getting enough Protein. Keep working girl you got it!! ☺️☺️☺️

If you told me you have 300# to lose and have lost less than 30# in 2.5 months... maybe that is slow. You really didn't share enough info to say, but my key point is don't look at pounds lost, look at percentage of excess weight lost. That is how the nutritionalists do it. And, we all lose at our own pace. I am in maintenance and I can tell you that years down the road, it really doesn't matter how long it took to lose the weight....

My surgery weight was 317. I'm now at 283. I don't get how a 1lb a wk is ok.

So how do I figure out the percentage loss??

You said you're 2.5 months (10 weeks) out and down 34 lbs. That means you're losing an average of 3.4 pounds per week, not 1. With gastric sleeve, 1-2 pounds per week is average.

To figure out your percentage of excess weight lost--first subtract your goal weight from your start weight, and that is your excess weight. So if you started at 317, and your goal weight is 180 (no idea how tall you are or what your goal is, just picking a number), your excess weight is 137 lbs. Then you divide the amount of weight you've lost so far by the excess weight, and that's your percentage of excess weight lost: 34/137 = 0.248. So (again, assuming a goal weight of 180) you've lost 24.8% of your excess weight.

I'm 5'8. My surgery day was 4/15/15. This is going to sound embarrassing I never asked what my goal weight should be or did my dr. Discuss this with me. But I'd be happy at 180.

My surgeon didn't give me a goal weight, either. The goal weight I picked (145 lbs, I'm only 5'2") is still technically overweight according to the BMI charts, but it's a weight that I felt might be attainable and one that I felt healthy at in college. I'll be thrilled if I can lose more, but I didn't want to set myself up for failure, either.

You're welcome--I have plenty of time to stalk the boards here at the moment, as I'm still off work recovering from my surgery!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
