I'm very sad, I may have crohn's disease...

Recommended Posts

So I am kind of freaking out. I am 24 years old. I was banded in Dec and I have lost 50 lbs which is great. Two weeks after I was banded they found an ovarian cyst which was bigger than a grapefruit on my right side. Which required surgical removal of the cyst and well as most of the ovary. Since then they found 2 more cysts on the left side that they have been monitoring. Last week I was getting really bad cramping (lower abdomen), diarhea, and I couldn't hold anything down. They did a catscan and found thickening of the small intestine-inflammation of the small bowel (illitis) and they put me on cipro and flagyl. I feel better but I still get some pains on my lower right abdomen (i have been getting these episodic pains-soreness since my ovary was removed- I know this may have something to do with scar tissue is forming. I now have to go for a barium xray this friday- then i have to follow up with my doctor the following week for the results - the next step is then a colonscopy. I just moved from ny to miami. I am away from my friends and my family. My boyfirend has been coming down here a lot since I've moved- but I feel so alone and even cursed. I feel like I'm too young to be having these problems. I had my gallbladder removed when I was 18 b/c of gallstones and now I have this. If I do have Crohns can this cause complications with the band? The doctor said the symptoms and pains I have been having has nothing to do with the band. Any info would be greatly appreaciated.

I don't know how it affects the band, but I can tell you that I have two realatives that have Crohns.. my aunt on my dads side and my step cousin on my moms side........ Both have had it FOREVER.. my cousin was diagnose in his late teenage years and now is 35....... I just know that each time they have to remove some of his intestines it is a concern for how much they end up taking..... (I'm not educated on the disease at all)

HUGS to you!!!!!!!!!!

My dad and brother have Chrons disease to be honest if you take care of it and take your meds and ensure that you stop irritating your system by not consuming things that irritate it you should be ok. They told my dad that so long as he stayed on a healthy diet he would be ok but if he didnt that loss of intestine and bowel can happen.

They both are fine now and have had to adjust there diet but other then that a ok you should be fine just follow drs orders

My sister is in her fifties and has had Crones since her early 20's. She has had one child and a couple surgeries. She is also a nurse and plays tennis regularly. She has her moments when she has eaten something irritating but mostly she lives a great life.

Take care of yourself! The diet to take care of your crones should be a good one for the band too.

Hi

Chron's is usually in the intestine not the stomach so you should be able to keep your band, however you made need steroids or part of your intestine removed depending how bad.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
