Just banded

Recommended Posts

I'm 29yr and was just banded 6/19 my start weight was 220lb and I'm 5'. From preop diet to now I am at 201. First off this is tough stuff!! I absolutely hate Protein shakes...tried so many they stink!!! I'm still on full liquids and its just as hard.... I force down 4oz of Protein Shake in the morning (holding my nose) and another at night... In between chicken broth, Jello, Water, cream soup... I have started to feel like I made the wrong choice but I think I just need a reminder of all the good. My question why can't I have fruit smoothie!!! :-( anyone else here close in the process like me that we could journey together???

Don't give up. You won't be sorry. It gets easier

Protein shakes...yuk

I make mine using about half cup of frozen fripuir, half cup low fat milk, half cup..or less.. Of unflavored Greek yogurt and 2 packets of sweet we. Blend in a ni game blender for a out 2 minutes. Really good! I eat this for Breakfast or an afternoon snack.

You're doing great. Wait until you see your reflection in a store window and you're surprised that it's you!

Hi ggrrm,

Yup, it's hard work, but it's WORTH IT! Within no time you will be on mushy food, then soft foods, then solids again. Don't rush it - you've come this far. I loved my Protein shakes, although they did indeed get a little "tired" after 2 staright weeks pre-op.

Your full fluids phase is anything that can run off a spoon. So you can eat cream Soups, runny purees, etc. Hang in there. As you begin to add foods back in from the regular world, this will get easier!

Don't give up, and YES it's worth every Protein shake you have to stuff down. The results will delight you....!

Hi ggrrm,

I am getting banded next week! I'd love to journey with you, I'm currently experiencing fear in moving forward reading everyone's comments I know I will be facing hard times ahead im wondering how I will handle emotional hunger vs actual hunger being so use to comfort eating and literally giving in mentally this will prove to be a challenge but hang in there we will reap the rewards soon and once you start loosing weight this will motivate you to continue on your journey

Maddie

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
