HappyValleyHappy 48 Posted June 24, 2015 From your experience how soon were you able to drive? I live 4 hours from surgery center. Would like to get home after a couple of days if possible. Any advice?
James Marusek 5,244 Posted June 24, 2015 I started driving about a week after surgery. Also they will not let you drive while you are on (narcotic) pain medicine. After the operation I refused all pain medicine.
lkt997 4 Posted June 24, 2015 I would really recommend letting your surgeon know that you need to drive home and how far away it is. I'm pre-op but I'm going to be taking a taxi to the hospital and a taxi home. It's only 10 minutes away.
Daisee68 2,493 Posted June 24, 2015 @@lkt997 - Be sure you ask about the taxi. Anytime I have had surgery (any kind of surgery and there have about 10) they have specifically told me someone must be there when I leave - taxi was not acceptable.
TXMissy 211 Posted June 25, 2015 I know my paperwork said that if I live 30 mins or more from the hospital that I needed to stop and walk for a few minutes each 30 minutes. The concern was blood clots. May take you longer to get home, but your health is most important.
HappyValleyHappy 48 Posted June 25, 2015 I know all about the stopping and walking. Not a problem. I have a way to where I'm staying for a few days. I'm just one of those that prefers my own home to recoup. Thanks every one.
jess9395 5,449 Posted June 25, 2015 Once you are off narcotics you can drive.
kell778 46 Posted June 26, 2015 I would Uber. Taxis are really expensive and Uber is much more reasonable.
