Hello all, I am about 10.5 months out & had my first real scare this weekend. I was having some pain & ended up going to the ER & had a CT scan done to see what was going on. There was no obvious internal hernia but the dye was backing up into my liver which is no good so I ended up having emergency laparoscopic exploratory surgery. I am feeling pretty good just 1 day out other then the medical gas making my shoulders & neck sore.

Anyone else have this happen to them? The surgeon said its common after losing 100 or so pounds which I have done. And he fixed what they call the "Peterson's Defect" a know defect after RNY however they can not fix it with the original surgery because they do not know if the intestines will survive the initial surgery.

Hi, I had to look up Petersen's Defect apparently it is common but quite dangerous. I'm glad you are on the mend. I think they can't repair it with the original RNY surgery because it's not herniated yet? That's quite scary that blood flow to the bowel can be lost. May I ask where you felt the pain and what it felt like?
