Could it be I am not eating enough?

Recommended Posts

So I am 2 months post op, HW 324 SW 304, I am 257 as of this morning, losing 67 lbs. so I have been following the diet and I do really good one week and lose 5 lbs then the following if I lose a whole lb I am doing good. That was last week. So Between Friday morning and Monday morning I lost 5 lbs. I did nothing different and was even bad and had a bit of cream off my son's piece cake. I have been keeping an average 75 g of Protein, most days it's more than that. My caloric intake is right at 900 daily. On the weekends I am a little more active, I don't count I just eat if I'm hungry. I stop eating after I feel like I can feel food in my pouch. I'm just wondering if maybe during the week I'm eating but not enough calories. It just boggles me how my weight loss fluctuates. I know everyone is different, but still causes confusion in my head.

That fluctuation is completely normal. There will be times when you get closer to your goal when you will go weeks without losing anything.

As long as you are hitting your Protein goal which should be a minimum of 1 gram for every inch you are tall. You are getting 64 oz. of Water and you are feeling satisfied you are doing very very well.

I have never focused on caloric intake and have been told not to even worry about it. The only time I changed was when I hit a 3 week long stall. I was literally getting between 450 calories and 600. I was told to add some additional calories via Protein. As soon as I did that I started losing again.

I am now almost nine months post op, I average between 75 and 85 grams of protein which is my primary focus. I do know that my daily caloric intake is between 900 and 1100 daily. The only reason I know this is because I use fitness pal to track.

Just like you I eat when I am hungry or its time and yes, every once in a while I will eat something like a few spoons of ice cream or something. I don't make a habit out of it but I also don't deprive myself of anything.

Enjoy this honeymoon period because it gets harder as time goes by.

You may not be eating enough. That happened to me. Once I increased my calories from 900 to 1100, I started losing again. I use My Fitness Pal to track everything which is I huge requirement for success. TRACK TRACK TRACK!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
