Family Support Problems

Recommended Posts

It is only 8:43 in the morning and I am already discussed! Since I have made the decision to get banded everyone seems to be an expert on weight loss and band failures. My father started by saying that I dont need surgery I just need to push myself away from the table. Great advice from someone who has never had a weight problem.

My husband's Aunt, who is like a mother to me since my mother passed away, says she knows someone who had it done and hasn't lost hardly anything. He says it doesn't work and joined Weight Watchers and lost 20 lbs. I asked her who his surgeon was and that I would love to talk to him if I could have email address or phone number. She never gave me either one.

My brother told my Aunt and Uncle the other day, I wish he hadn't, and he told me they said that they are very concerned about me because no one should have surgery if they don't need it. They too know someone who got banded and it didnt do anything. They are just as heavy as before they got it.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I shouldn't have told anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:angry :faint: :help:

Invite your aunt to look at the before and after pics on this site. There are lots of very successful stories here, some not as much as others. Also, if you could push yourself away from the table, you wouldn't be getting the band.

Go for it!

Exactly why I didn't tell folks. But it's done now and you can't take it back. I love HarleyNana's suggestion of showing them the before and after pics of folks here!

I also agree, if it were so easy to just push yourself away from the table, there wouldn't be an obesity epidemic. That having been said, the Band does require work and committment in order for it be the best tool it can be.

This is your decision, this is your health and your body (not theirs), go for it!

The problem with pushing ourselves away from the table is, WE DON'T JUST EAT AT THE TABLE. I was a grazer. I'd eat literally all day long. If I wasn't eating a meal, I was either snacking on something or looking for something to snack on.

If you can't get support from your family, you'll get plenty here.... (((hugs)))

Thank you all so much. I am so glad that this site is available. I have never met such nice people and caring too. I just needed to let out a little frustration. I do feel better. I am doing what I believe is best for me. I realize that their feelings are their own and I am sure that they are all concerned. I thank you all for your support!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
