My Experiences - 12 Days Out

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve on June 12 and I am so glad I did this! Here are my notes so far:

June 5 - Pre op weight 213 and 5'1"

June 12 - Date of surgery weight 203

Current weight 195

I had minimal pain after surgery. Only needed Tylenol. Not a minute of nausea.

I guess I was on an adrenalin high due to feeling so good the first few days but had difficulty getting in the Protein. Not bc of pain, but just bc I was scared of siping too fast and getting sick. Then it hit me. All of a sudden I was very weak and had no energy. Dr said I needed to stay out of work an extra week. (I had only planned one week off.) He me to concentrate on getting my protein in. He was right. He gave me some tips to get more protein in and it worked.

I haven't felt hungry in my tummy. Of course sitting home all day and watching all the shows that feature food and the commercials make he head hungry - Damn you Rachel Ray! Lol!

I'm really tired of the Protein shakes but doctoring them up to add flavor. I haven't had much broth or ice pops bc I feel I only want to have drinks that have protein and don't want to fill up on non Protein Drinks and have no room for the protein .

Father's Day was difficult bc I haven't told too many people about my surgery, but everyone was so busy eating, no one really noticed that I wasn't. The food did look good though.

Trying to remember not to gulp Water is really hard. I have been so of the mentality to drink water that I guzzled it all the time just to get it in. I have to reverse that thinking and just sip sip sip. That is very hard for me.

I think that the liquid part, although hard has made it easier to stay focused bc I don't have to make any decisions about what I'm going to eat (or very limited choices anyway). I think it will be harder when I have to make decisions about what I eating like turkey breast or a hamburger. But I know I can do this! We all can!

Thanks for listening. This site has been invaluable to me in getting through all this. I am gladly on the losers bench.

Hi @@Daisy Girl! Good going so far. Glad you had a smooth surgery and an easier recovery so far. The sipping thing will not last,, you will be able to drink more in time. I drink normally and can take huge swallows now. Water goes straight thru so it doesn't hurt my sleeve and I am better able to get my fluids in now that my tummy is mostly healed.

Keep up the good work!!

For MY week after surgery I was on 3 Protein shakes a day. For my plan week 2 I was on soft foods and I was allowed deli turkey, deli chicken and flaky fish...so I did salmon and deli meats. I still to this day do a Protein shake for Breakfast just because it is quick and easy, I can drink it on the way to work. I make it with extra add-ins to keep the variety up and to make it taste great.

What does your plan say for week 2?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
