Where were you at two weeks into recovery?

Recommended Posts

Scheduled for surgery on June 30. Was originally supposed to be June 2 but I ended up with the stomach flu. Just wondering how everybody was doing two weeks into recovery. I have plans to travel about an hour and a half from home and spend the week at that location. I will be two weeks post op and just wondering what to expect? My biggest concern is staying hydrated. I will be outside quite a bit and summers in the Midwest are HOT.

I was ok two weeks after surgery. The first week was rough and the second week I was tired, but back to work full time. At the start of the second week I started feeling almost normal again, although not being able to eat real food kinda put a damper on that. If you have the ability to cook for yourself and have a kitchen where you can stay hydrated and well-fed, you'll be fine on vacation. I don't think I was really crazy about the heat for a few weeks after surgery. My procedure was done at the start of Sep and I live in Florida, so also miserably hot at about 2 weeks post-op.

I was on soft foods, back at work and almost getting my fluids in. I tired easily and was trying to get a handle on pre-planningmeals to make sure I got my Protein in.

I'm a terrible example, it took me almost a month to get my energy and strength back. I was so weak. I didn't have a problem getting my liquids down though -my liquid diet was for two weeks post-op. I just wanted to sleep all the time. It was a struggle forcing myself to get up and walk.

Thank you for the info. We will be in a camper so I will have access to cooking. I will have my two week follow up the day before I leave. Hopefully, I will get to go to soft foods by then. Had my surgery been early June as planned, there would not be a concern. My son has a National Championship sporting event and I'm not missing it.

My energy levels were pretty much back to normal when I went back to work on day 11. But I barely ate more than a tablespoon of food each day for the 1st 8 or 9 days. Everything caused Frankensleeve fits. I was living off Crystal Light lemonade and sugar free popsicles. Once back to work, I was eating about 3/4 can of Cream of Mushroom Soup per day.

I just stay focused on getting in fluids. I figured I had plenty of calories stored on me, so starvation and malnutrition were not going to be a problem! :-P But dehydration was on my mind all the time, so I drank as often as I could.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
