Definately not. I actually started losing while on the pre op diet. It got worse around month 3 and even worse at month 6. I am 8 months post op and still losing. The important thing is to get your Protein, Iron and realize that your hair grows back, you won't lose it in Patches, it will just thin out a lot.

If you take Biotin it will help with regrowth but it will not stop your hair from falling out.

Also a shorter haircut really does help hide it because as your new hair grows in which is fast while on Biotin, it will catch up faster if you have a shorter hairstyle.

My surgical team told me it will slow down and stop when your body gets to goal.

Vitamins are Protein are your best defense against Hair loss. It's normal, it DOES stop after the first year or so, and Biotin will help. Congratulations on being 50 #'s down!

I don't know if you have had children or not, but think of it as loosing your hair "post baby" it thins so very much!!! And then again. Mine has even changed texture! I am 8.5 months post surgery and I have a ton of new growth. It is hard to style my hair right now. I lost more than I thought I would just make sure you have a great hairstylist to work with, and you will do great!

I'm at 7 weeks post- op starting losing hair after I started gallbladder meds had all kinds reactions to it asked a support group last night was told to stop it Wow I got some sleep first time in 3 weeks started meds. Biotin is good but 15 mg of zinc a day also. I got from GNC a supplement called be-beautiful, also take 5000 extra biotin and zinc. Eat extra Protein too helps I was told. This was from about 45 people that are post-op of 2 months to 5 years love this group. Hope this helps

I take Biotin and I have also been using Nioxin Shampoo and conditioner.. I am 9 months out from surgery and my Hair loss is just starting to slow down.. My Dr said that it would start to slow down when the weight loss slowed down. The Vitamins and shampoo are really helping..

Congrats on the weight loss! The lady that has cut my hair for the last... I don't know, maybe 8 years -- said she noticed my hair has become thinner since the surgery. However many here have said the Hair loss stops eventually. I sure hope so.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
