Ugh, Tilapia did not like me

Recommended Posts

Was able to start next phase yesterday which includes fish, soft veggies, and some other things. So I made Tilapia for dinner. Felt fine afterward but 2 hours later felt like the food was stuck in my throat-then ensuing uncomfortable feeling in chest and general nausea. Long story short, had to make myself throw up after about 4 hours of pain. The whole experience got me really upset! Not sure if it was just the fish, the amount, the chewing-I swear I really tried to follow all the rules. So now I am scared to try fish again or anything that resembles it. Back to cottage cheese for today and probably tomorrow...How to get past this? I am not allowed any other kind of meats yet (only egg, tuna and flaky fish).

@Red37. Hey how have you been doing? I have been having a hard time figuring out what to eat, bite size, and how do I know when I have chewed enough as well. The only seafood that seems to be the easiest for me is shrimp. I could not handle any fish other then tuna. I can also have canned chicken breast because it is the same consistency as tuna. My problem seems to be I can eat it one time and no problem, try it another time and I have a wicked bad heavy feeling in my stomach. I am learning I cannot handle more then 2-3 oz of food. I have to still get my Protein from Protein Powder because I just cannot seem to consume enough food, especially when also trying to drink at least 48oz. I see my surgeon and NUT tomorrow and am hoping their scale matches mine, so far 30 pounds gone. Hoping that they tell me I can start moving to regular food, it at the same time I am not sure I can eat it.

Hi TLW! Good to hear from you! I am doing ok except for last night (and last week ended up having to get hydration)!! I am not allowed shell fish until the 8 week mark, ugh! I too will see my surgeon this week-on Thurs. thinking I am around -30+ a bit, if their scale matches mine. I need to ask about Protein because our Nut does not have recommendations for protein after week 2, right now I am not supposed to be doing Protein Shakes either. They want us to get it from food I guess-but there is no number attached to it! I am definitely afraid to try the fish again, but can't do other meats until week 7!! That seems so far away!! I did have some canned green Beans and they went ok, going to try lentils tomorrow I think! Feeling ok otherwise, less tired!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
