Completely and utterly FRUSTRATED ... (lap band to sleeve gripe)

Recommended Posts

Brief history: I had the lap band February 2012. It was an awful experience, one that I had to live with for two years before insurance would pay for a conversion. I chose the gastric sleeve and had that performed August 20, 2014. My highest weight (ever) was 336, and that was in 2006. I had since then lost and regained, going down to 285, back up to 325. I was 313.6 the day of my lap band surgery and only lost to 282 in the two years I had it.

For the sleeve, I was 305 the day of surgery and I am sitting here at 261. I feel like I should have lost more in the 10 months since I've had this procedure. My surgeon told me that my weight loss would be "slower" due to me already having had the band and my sleeve being a "little bigger at the top" due to "scar tissue" from the band. I try not to compare myself to other people but it's hard when you see someone who has been sleeved for six months and have dropped 100 pounds already. I am just frustrated and at my wits end and feeling like a complete FAILURE. :(

Is there anyone else out there who converted from band to sleeve? How has your weight loss gone?

I did not have the Lap band but I gained back from having the sleeve and fail like a failure. Hopefully your still losing something a week. Sometimes it's just slow hard work. For some this was a tool not a quick fix and some days food just wins. Smile and stay strong you can do this. Good luck

Hi Lindsey,I am also band to sleeve and have found that I have to accept that my loss of weight is slower than many others.Surgeon said that top of my pouch was stretched from the slipped band. The thing is not to weigh to often, I weigh once a month and can honestly say that I have never failed to lose weight any month.I have lost 63lbs in 7 months which compared to some people is slow, but I know that this is a marathon not a sprint and I could happily eat as I do now for the rest of my life.I am free of the grip that food had over me,and I still lose steadily every month.I have taken up nordic walking and go cycling and aquafit a couple of times a week I am 66years old and feel on top of the world.Pippinleicester.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
