How often does everyone see their NUT? Do you have regular appointments? And what would prompt you to make an appointment to see him/her? I'm two weeks out today and am doing very well. I wasn't losing much weight until I got on track with my Water, and walked, more than just my dog. I like my NUT a lot but I feel like she has a one size fits all approach (I could be wrong; I only saw her at my pre-op appointment with her, and the pre-op class.) It seems like a lot of you have a more personalized relationship with yours. Maybe once I'm farther along I'll need to see her more? I only pay a $20 office visit copay to see her, so finding a new one would be expensive. TIA for your help.

I saw my nutritionist more than everyone else in the office combined. They take a team approach, so you can see any one of them for your mandatory 6-month supervised weight loss thing, and for whatever reason I picked her. She tried every trick in her book to get me on track, but it never really stuck. I knew she was making sense and knew what she was talking about, but it didn't change my behavior. She was a nice enough person and very earnest, but I just wasn't ready to hear any of what she was laying out there. I didn't lose a single pound during that process, until the last 2 weeks before surgery when I suddenly managed to squeak out the expected 5% reduction for liver-shrinkage.

Immediately pre- and post-surgery, I would just schedule appointments when I felt like I needed it. When I was about to go on my first business trip or first vacation post-surgery, I'd schedule a session and just talk about how to navigate those situations. And when I transitioned from one food phase to another, I'd schedule an appointment to talk about what was OK / not OK on the new plan.

At the end of the day, I must have been taking in what she was saying on some level, because the more time passes the more I'm following the instructions she gave me more than a year ago. I'm almost six months post-surgery and haven't seen her for three months and don't have any appointments planned, but I still feel like she set me up for success even when I wasn't really taking any action yet.

My team has a specific requirement for each expert. I see both the nutritionist and my favorite Bariatric nurse who happened to have bypass herself.

I of course saw my nut once per month during the pre op phase and then once each time the diet phase changed until I was cleared for normal food. So I saw her after week 1 post op where they changed me from Clear liquids to full liquids, then again a week later when I went from full liquids to puréed, the again when I went from puréed to soft foods. I stayed on soft foods for a month then saw her again when she cleared me for regular foods.

Then it has moved to 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 1 year.

You do build a good repor with them. I love my nut, she has taught me a ton about how my new system works and it really helped me stay the course. I have lost 110lbs in 8 months and have 35 to go.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
