If possible try stop taking everything! I got into such a terrible cycle after I had my gall bladder out, I thought I was going to die from Constipation or the colace/MoM/laxatives. I stopped taking everything and went to an acupuncture doctor. Within 24 hours my body calmed down. I'm only one week post op from my sleeve and started the same cycle at day five, but this time I stopped pain meds and took one dose of MoM and relaxed. It cleared up with 24 hours because I didn't keep trying to hurry it.

@@sleevenv - Acupuncture?! What a great idea! I have never done that but have heard good results. I am going to try to find someone local. I had this surgery to get off all meds not take other ones! Appreciate the advice. Apologies to original poster for hijacking the post!

So is the Constipation that bad? My surgeon told me it was a complication for some and gas but is it really that intolerable?

So I had to stay home from work today AND missed a dr appt because I could not actually leave the restroom from the Constipation and difficulty passing. It was awful - AGAIN! I have taken Colace (3 yesterday and 2 pretty consistently every day and only working occasionally), added Benefiber (think it is making it worse), Milk Of Magnesia (seems to work but gives diarrhea for the next 24 hours so I can't leave the restroom for other reasons). I called the dr office and left a message and actually starting crying because I am that miserable and frustrated - AND my tailbone and bladder hurt from where it is pushing on it and I have hemorrhoids and possibly a fissure. Anyway, NP from surgeon office called back and said this may happen the rest of my life. Constipation is a side effect from RNY. Really?! OMG! I have never experienced this kind of pain and frustration except when I had bilateral ureter stents for 3 weeks. At least I could take pain med for that! If I take pain med, it makes the constipation worse. They had given me a sample of Amatiza which is a very strong laxative and the first time I took it, I seriously nearly passed out and had chills. The solution is taking this med twice a day (instead of Colace and Benefiber) and hope that it gets me back to regular. I have not tried Miralax yet but I have in the past and felt it wasn't much better than other solutions. I am still on pureed / soft foods so I really really hope this will get better as time progresses and food progresses. (BTW, NP said as long as I am still going every 3 days, it isn't an emergency and hopefully the Amatiza will get me regular enough to get rid of the stools that cause such pain.) Sorry I am rambling, but I just needed to vent a little. I am so discouraged about this. I cannot keep missing out on life for this problem. This is not why I had the surgery.... combined with the morning nausea, vomiting (probably my fault because I ate too fast) and inability to eat in the morning (because of the nausea), I am beyond discouraged.

i am going through the same thing right now for the past month every 2-3 days i am beyond constipated n sitting on toilet crying i was taking mom which doesn't work that well but i can't keep taking all the time i don't know what else to do.i am miserable

@@newbeginning77 - I really am so sorry! I completely understand! I have a few suggestions - though no guarantees for any.

- I saw one suggestion where the poster's dr said to take a dose of MOM at 7 and then 2 Colace at 10 p.m. and should have relief the next day. I did the 2 Colace at bedtime and it worked, but the next time I tried it did not.

- If you are taking pain meds still, call your dr. They can prescribe a med that works for "opiod induced constipation".

- I went to an acupuncturist today for help. It was odd (I hadn't done that before), but I am game. He said it will take a few times to do much good, so I am going to go a few more times. In the meantime, I saw this video on You Tube yesterday, and I did the massage thing on my stomach they suggested, and I had great success this morning without any pain! Now, I also only had liquids yesterday and made sure I didn't take any meds (not even vitamins), so I don't know which specific thing worked, but I don't care as long as it worked! :) Here is the link to the video - https://youtu.be/dklVFMw7P1Y Won't hurt to try it - I think!

Good luck! I will let you know how my acupuncture goes. Call your dr tomorrow since it's Friday so you aren't miserable over the weekend and see what they can suggest.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
