Had sleeve surgery on June 9th. Am now about 2 weeks post op. Have developed severe acid reflux. It doesn't seem to go away. Have it 24 hours a day and is horrible at night. Actually ended up trying to sleep semi-upright in the recliner last night. Anyone else suffering with this problem? And, more importantly, anyone know how to stop it?

I have it too, so I'm trying to figure out what's causing it. So far, I've realized that anything with "citric acid" (which is in most drinks, lol) is causing either heartburn or acid reflux....... Today I'm sticking to only Water to see if that helps.

Oh PS: I'm two weeks and 4 days post op.

Are you taking Prilosec or other time release antacid? My doctors said acid reflux is almost a "Given" for sleevers. I am on 2 Prilosec every day. They do have Prilosec and generic at costco.< /p>

Are you having these problems while taking a prescription like pepcid or prilosec? I'm really curious about whether you've been taking this medicine already.

@@Shustar - mentioned taking 2 per day - I'm taking 2 generic famotidine (pepcid) each day and haven't experienced the reflux yet. I'm hopeful that my prescription prevents this complication.

Good luck to you all.

I have not taken any medicine, I'd like to get on one though..... Because the acid is starting to confuse me with hunger ...... When I know I'm not hungry... Ugh!

Never had to take anything for acid reflux before surgery. Had it maybe 2-3 times in my life. My doctor prefers to wait for it to pass. If doesn't pass within a week, will put me on something.

I never had acid reflux before surgery, but it was horrible right after. I started on Prilosec OTC every morning, and Zantac at bedtime. After 4 weeks I was able to quit taking the Zantac but I still take Prilosec in the morning. I am 7 weeks post-op and its getting much better! Hoping to discontinue the Prilosec at month 3 and see how it goes...

YAY! The acid reflux has finally passed. Haven't had it at all in 2-3 days. Just hope it stays away!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
