Was it hard for you?

What was the most successful method you used?

Anything to help me in the process?

Hey, I'm on my pre-op diet and Ive successfully lost 26 lbs on my own and I haven't even begun you liquid diet yet. I'm set to be sleeved on July 16th. My NUT put me on a low carb, low calorie diet. Basically one serving of starchy carbs a day. One serving is a half cup of brown rice, whole wheat Pasta one slice of bread ect. I fill up on non starchy veggies and I have my serving of Protein and I'm ok. I realize that my little 26 lbs is just the beginning but I'm proud, because this is coming from a person who couldn't really lose weight on her own. Just know the first two weeks are hardest. But once the cravings stop you're on easy street. Good luck, wishing you all the best.

Hi, I started my pre-op on the 9th of June, mine consisted of 2-3 Protein Shakes and one non fat Greek yogurt + unlimited sugar free Jello, Popsicles and drinks. I started at 347, and I just weighed myself and I am 328, and I still have two days until surgery! With the diets they put you on its almost impossible to not lose weight! Good luck! You'll do great! Hey! You'll do great as long as you just follow the instructions they give you. I had 3 to 4 Protein Shakes a day with Clear Liquids. It's more strict than some, but it made me feel more disciplined, confident and I let around 18 in two weeks. I would confront my food issues instead of avoiding them which will help you overcome cravings and be more successful after surgery. I am just four days post op but I feel great. Good luck on your surgery and just remember to confront not avoid food and you'll do great!! :)

Do you have to lose weight pre-op? Like is it an insurance requirement? Sounds like you're asking more about a regular diet than the strict 2 week (usually) pre-op diet to shrink your liver, right?

I had to have a 90 day medically supervised weight loss period and I ate low carb and cut out starches and lost 29lbs in 90 days. And to be honest, that was with a fair amount of cheating. Many people respond well to a low carb diet. It's hard to cut out starches but it makes the weight come off.

I was required to lose 10% of my excess weight (16 pounds) during my 90 day supervised diet. That was my program's requirement, not insurance.

The nutritionist put me on a 1500 calorie per day diet and I was supposed to break that down into three 350 calorie meals and two 200 calories Snacks. It was high Protein, low carb, low fat. This was also to help me get used to what eating would be like post-op.

However, to be honest, I just did my own thing. I had a hard time getting my Breakfast calories in and I don't like snacking between meals. So I would (and still do) have a Premier Protein shake for Breakfast every day, usually a salad for lunch, and dinner would be very low carb (grilled meat and veg) or I'd have a bit of carbs (a serving of rice) with meat, then fruit or a Quest bar for an evening snack. I've also done my share of splurging once or twice a week eating out or getting takeout. I've lost 27 pounds so far and I'm still chugging along until my surgery, which should be in the next few weeks.

Low carb is a pretty good way to go. It's tough in the beginning but after a week or so, the cravings will stop. I used to be a sugar addict and that stuff doesn't really appeal to me anymore.

I too had to lose 10 percent and I actually went on to lose more, around 30 pounds. The first thing I did was go through my house and get rid of all temptations and trigger foods. If you have to go out of your way to get to the bad foods you'll find that you're less inclined to stray.

Next I incorporated a regimen of daily exercise, for me it's the treadmill. Worked on upping my Water intake, stopped drinking soda. I know this all sounds like common sense diet stuff, and it is. What made it different this time around was that I had a goal that I'd never had before, and that was qualifying for weight loss surgery. It took me a year to get through my insurance requirements and finally I'm there! Been approved, met with my surgeon last week and now I'm just waiting for a date.

Overall, despite the long wait, I've learned that I'm so much stronger than I give myself credit for. You too will discover your inner strength as you go along. Put your heart and soul into it, stay focused on the end goal and nothing can stop you from succeeding! Good luck!

Yes I believe it's the insurance requirement to lose 10% which is like around 25-30 lbs!!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
